Sedro Woolley is a town in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Seattle metropolitan area. Sedro Woolley was founded on November 11, 1852 by James Hall and his wife Eliza Woolley as "Woolleytown". The name originated from woolen cloth that had to be shipped overland from British colonies; the first store in town opened its doors on December 1, 1853. Sedro Woolley became an incorporated municipality on October 15, 1959. The Town of Sedro Woolley was formed by combining two other towns: Southworth and North Bend. The merger came about because both Southworth and North Bend were struggling economically after World War II due to heavy military spending nearby. Both towns voted to incorporate as a municipality with voting rights for all residents regardless of affiliation with another municipality or not-for-profit corporation. On October 15, 1959, Sedro Woolley became an incorporated municipality complete with its own government and police force when it ratified an amendment to the Washington Constitution which granted municipalities such powers within the framework of municipal government within King County – something that had been lacking from previous municipalities in the county. With this incorporation came increased economic development as businesses began to migrate from neighbouring communities into Sedro Woolley proper – including its first grocery store following incorporation – becoming one of the most vibrant communities in King County today economy wise thanks largely to its proximity to Seattle and fertile land around it for agriculture production. In recent years growth has slowed somewhat due to rising housing prices in neighboring areas but remains strong overall given its relatively low population density compared to larger urban centres like Seattle and Vancouver (the two largest cities in King County).

The town of Sedro Woolley developed around this location and eventually became a major center for commerce and transportation in the area.
