The Sedro Woolley, Washington National Guard was created in 1907. The unit has been present at various times throughout its history, most notably during World War II. In 1944, the Sedro Woolley National Guard was merged with the Seattle National Guard to form one unit. The current Sedro Woolley National Guard is composed of both federal and state troops. The Sedro Woolley National Guard Museum is located within the city limits of Sedro Woolley and opened in 1957. It contains a collection of military artifacts from around Sedro Woolley and King County and celebrates the Guards' role in local community life. The museum also preserves traditional Native American art and crafts from around the area as well as photos and memorabilia from the war years. Today, there are more than 2,000 members of the Sedro Woolley National Guard stationed throughout King County. They play a critical role in society by providing law enforcement services, support for local businesses and events, disaster relief operations and manning military installations across the county.

In 1984, woolen fabric manufacturer Pendleton Industries bought Woolley's post office building and built their own facility there (now known as "Pendleton Woolen Mill"); they continued to produce woolen fabrics until 1988 when they merged with Ahlquist & Company to form Pendleton Ahlquist & Company Incorporated. The community received national attention when members of The Beatles visited during their 1966 US Tour and photographed themselves performing at local businesses (such as The Woolleys' home). This publicity helped bring about increased visitation for the town during that era. In 2007, Sedro Woolley celebrated its 100th anniversary with two events; an open house and parade through downtown followed by a cakewalk across the Willamette River after which dinner was provided at World Cafe Live in nearby Vancouver. A centennial observance will be held in 2019 including public programs staged throughout downtown Sedro WoolLEY while special exhibits are also planned throughout the year at various local libraries and museum locations within walking distance of town limits

Sedro Woolley was a land grant to the woolen mills at Sedro Woolley, Washington. The mill owners, the Beall family, erected a gristmill on the left bank of the Wenatchee River in 1847 and began production of woolens. In 1865, they built a larger mill on the right bank of the river and began producing cashmere and other fiber products. In 1970, the mill closed due to competition from cheaper foreign mills. Today, only traces of its foundations remain. Sedro Woolley was founded by Capt. John Beall in 1847 as an agricultural enterprise for raising sheep and cattle on 640 acres (250 hectares) near present-day Seattle. By 1860, it had become a center for processing woolen materials from local sheep and buffalo herds into finished goods such as cashmere, flannel, shirt fabrics, hats and gloves. The mill site is now occupied by a park named after Sedro Woolley. The Beall family developed Sedro Woolley into one of America's leading woolen mills during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Their successors continued manufacturingCashmere until World War II when demand for war material dwindled; however, some remnants of their factory still stand today in downtown Seattle.
