The Spokane Air National Guard has a long history of deploying air forces to support our local communities. From World War II through the present, Spokane AFB has been an important part of the United States military. In 1941, when Spokane was first created as a county seat, the city of Spokane organized itself into a volunteer fire department and paid for its own uniforms and equipment. The following year, the city began providing aircraft to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department for use in emergency services. In 1945, when Spokane became a state capital, it also requested and received permission from the United States government to form its own air force. Formed on September 25th of that year with 30 planes and 5 commanders, the Spokane ANG served as an auxiliaries to then-U.S. Air Forces in Europe (USAFE). With headquarters at RAF Finningley in England, the ANG flew combat missions over Germany during World War II including enemy raids on American cities such as Dresden and Hamburg; intercepted Axis bombers over American soil;and supported ground forces during operations throughout North America. After hostilities ended in 1945, many members of the ANG were discharged or transferred back home due to their service within USAAFE which disbanded on May 1st 1946 without ever having deployed any planes beyond stateside airspace again! A few weeks later on September 3rd 1946 Northwest Airlines Flight 921 crashed into terrain just north of downtown after takeoff from Lewiston Municipal Airport while en route from Seattle - all seven people aboard died instantly! The tragedy forced then-Governor Spokan Mayor Tom Doherty (D) to call for greater aviation regulation which would lead ultimately to both his re-election victory in 1948 as well as house approval for creation of public transportation system specifically dedicated toAIRNATIONAL GUARD USE! On December 12th 1948 dispatching squadrons VVIII/1948 stationed at Boeing Field located just outside Seattle began serve deliveries directly to Spokane County - perhaps marking one final time USAFE operatives found themselves residing within municipal boundaries... until today!
When the United States Air Force announced its deployment of a new bomber, everyone was curious. The A-10 Warthog, a highly advanced aircraft that wasn’t used by most NATO countries, had finally been brought to the United States. And what better way to show Americans how much we appreciate their support than by sending them a gift? The USAF has chosen to send gift certificates as the main form of communication with airmen deployed overseas. Each certificate is redeemable for either an airfare or travel vouchers. This allows service members and their families the opportunity to experience some of America’s many attractions while they are in our country. Some of the places that have been scheduled for visit include Disneyland, Las Vegas, Washington D.C., and Miami Beach. It will be interesting to see how these visits play out and whether or not service members are able to enjoy all that America has to offer!
The Spokane Air National Guard's 117th Airlift Wing deployed a gift basket filled with items to the local community on Saturday, Dec. 5 in support of the holiday season. Included in the gift basket were fresh fruit, candy canes, chocolates and other snacks. The wing also donated clothes to local children in need and distributed toys to needy families.

The United States Air Force deployed gift history to Kuwait in the early 1990s as part of Operation Desert Shield. The deployment was an attempt to build trust with the Kuwaiti people and help prevent sectarian violence from erupting. The gifts were a mix of items such as clothing, food, and household supplies. Many of these items were donated by American businesses or individual citizens. Since the early 1990s, air force gift history has been deployed several times to other countries in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These deployments have included shipments of medical equipment, vehicles, and other supplies to Afghanistan and Pakistan. In each case, the gifts have been used to improve the lives of local residents and support military operations.
The USAF deployed gift history in 1953 when it sent a gift to the People's Republic of China in celebration of the fifteenth anniversary of the PLA. The gift was a P-51 Mustang fighter jet.
Spokane, Washington is a city in the Western United States. It was founded in 1854 by George C. Thomas and named after General Pierre de la Salle. Spokane became a U.S. city on January 15, 1907, when it was merged with Ellensburg and Cheney to form the Spokane-Ellensburg metropolitan area. The population of Spokane proper was 547,814 as of 2020[1]. Spokane has been home to many different cultures over its history including the Chinook people who first settled here in the late 19th century,[2] the Yakima Nation which lived here until 1898,[3] and various other groups who have resided here for centuries or more. The city also played an important role during World War II as one of five finalists chosen by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to serve as military bases within his New Deal program which helped support American war efforts.[4] After World War II ended, Spokane experienced rapid growth thanks to new industrialization and immigration from Asia which led to significant increase in both housing prices and job opportunities throughout the 1950s and 1960s[5]. During this time period, many of Spokane’s famous landmarks such as Spooner Hall (now known as Eastern Oregon University) were built or renovated including a downtown mall that opened in 1962 called CenturyLink Field[6], major league baseball’s newly created Tacoma Dome (now known as Safeco Field),[7] and Hearst Castle (later renamed Black Diamond Resort).[8] In recent years, though not without controversy, homelessness has become an increasing problem in downtown Spokane while gentrification has begun to take hold across much of the rest of town[9]. Overall, however, Spokane continues to be one of America’s most vibrant cities with rich cultural heritage that makes it an excellent place to live, work, visit friends and family.,

The city grew rapidly due to its location on the Snake River and its access to cheap land and natural resources. By 1900, Spokane had reached an estimate of 100,000 residents. The city's growth continued into the 20th century, with a population increase of 250,000 by 1940. However, during World War II, Spokane's economy shifted from agriculture to munitions production due to the need for wartime materials such as aluminum and aviation gasoline. After the war ended in 1945, Spokane experienced a period of rapid growth that led to its current population size of over 400,000 people.
