Coffee has been a mainstay in Sunnyside for many years. The first coffee shop opened up in 1922 and the business has never stopped growing. Today, there are several different types of coffee shops to choose from, as well as specialty coffee items like espresso and latte. Some people might say that Sunnyside is known for its coffee, but it also contains some great food options too! Some of the earliest coffee shops in Sunnyside were run by Mrs. Cavanaugh and her husband John. They would bring their prized beans from Italy to town and sell them to local residents. This was the beginning of the local brand name for Sunnyside Coffee Shop which still exists today! Over time, other individuals or businesses took on the role of running these stores until finally it came down to Mrs. Cavanaugh’s daughter Sandrine who ran it from 1978-1994. Ms. Cavanaugh passed away in 2006 so Ms. Sandrine took over full time operations until she retired in 2009! In 2016, Ms. Cavanaugh’s granddaughter Stephanie bought out her mother’s share of the business and continues to run it today with help from her father Reginald (nee Atkinson). Since 1994, when Mrs. Cavanaugh handed over control of Sunnyside CoffeeShop to Sandrine Cavanaugh, things have changed quite a bit within the community around this popular spot for morning caffeine fixation! It has become more diverse with all sorts of customers coming through its doors – young professionals and retirees alike; people who work downtown or live close by; locals who know about (and love) Sunnyside CoffeeShop because they grew up here or because their parents did; etc., etc….. Today, Sunnyside CoffeeShop is an important part of both our cultural heritage AND our everyday life experience!!! Sunnyside is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,817 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located east of Seattle on the border of Queen Anne and Ballard neighborhoods. Sunnyside was named for its view of Mount Rainier from its location on the east side of Lake Washington between Greenwood to the north and Sunnyside to the south. The name first appeared in a deed dating back to 1892. The community's early residents were farmers who grew crops and raised livestock near their homes in what is now Sunnyside Park. A post office called Sunnyside was established in 1895, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1958. In 1902, brothers Harry and Alanson Adler built a small blockhouse on land that still stands as part of Sunnyside Park today. They also ran a store there which became known as "The Dairy" because it supplied milk for local farms during those years. In 1916, developer George August Hecox platted what is now Sunnyside along Third Avenue South after purchasing property from nearby farmer James Fenton Jr.. Hecox developed the area into single-family housing developments with names such as "Hecox Heights", "Hoppe Hill", "Draper Heights", etc. Hecox died in 1944 but his daughter continued development under her name until her death in 1984. Today, most of Hecox's former development remains vacant or used for storage only; however, some newer buildings have been erected aroundsunnyside Elementary School which opened in 1986 adjacent to Hecox Plaza park Completely renovated by volunteers after being abandoned for many years!

Sunnyside is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 2,906 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located on the eastern edge of Seattle and is bordered by Bellevue to the east and Redmond to the west. It forms part of the Seattle–Bellevue metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Sunnyside were members of Bainbridge Island Company who charted a course for Puget Sound in 1692. In 1851, John Swan set up a log cabin on what would become Sunnyside Boulevard in what is now Sunnyside Park. By 1862, when it became part of King County, Sunnyside had a post office and five stores. A sawmill was started in 1871 and continued until 1915; production stopped because of competition from mills in nearby Bellevue and Tacoma. In 1898, after becoming an incorporated town, Sunnyside established its own fire department which still serves today as one of the largest public agencies in King County. The first school opened in 1899; it was replaced by a high school in 1912 which remains open today as Wellesley High School. The first grocery store opened within walking distance of SunnysIDE Center on Roosevelt Way NE in 1948 before being replaced by Safeway several years later One notable event that took place during this time period was when Mayor James Wickersham announced plans for development along Roosevelt Way NE called " Highway 520 ".
