Sunnyside is a census-designated place in King County, Washington. The population was 2,824 as of the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located on the eastern border of Seattle and is bordered by Redmond to the north, Issaquah to the east, North Seattle to the south, and Kirkland to the west. The name "Sunnyside" first appeared on a map in 1849 as part of a land grant from George Vancouver to John Tayler. Tayler named his farm Sunnyside after British Columbia's sun god (or "sunyer"). The name may have originated with an early settler's belief that because of its location near Puget Sound and its sandy soil, Sunnyside would be immune from34 years of winter Snows typical of much Northwest Territory. An 1875 deed document shows that Wm Henson had homesteaded at what is now Sunnyside and established himself as a farmer there in 1876. By 1890, most residents were Scottish immigrants who had settled around Everett Naval Air Station (later NAS Everett) along Puget Sound where they raised cattle and sheep until World War I when they moved into their current homes on 1/2 acres lots near what is now SR 523rd Street SE

However, the coffee was not well-received by most people as it was acidic and bitter. After several years of testing and experimentation, Blumstedt discovered that he could improve the quality of his beans by roasting them for a shorter amount of time. He developed what would become known as Robusta Coffee which became popular among consumers due to its rich flavor and smooth texture. In 1876, Jörg Riesling founded Riesling & Kappel AG in Zürich with the goal of becoming the world's leading importer and retailer of high-quality coffees. From this point on, Roasted Bean Company would become one of the world's most successful coffee companies

Sunnyside was a small town in the state of Washington before it was annexed by Seattle in 1881. The community was located on the east side of Lake Union, near the present-day Sunnyside Center shopping mall and Interstate 5. It developed around a small sawmill and gristmill that operated from 1847 to 1861. In 1881, the mill relocated to its current location west of I-5 and became part of the Seattle Mill Company. The company manufactured flour, bacon, butter, cheese, lumber and other items for local markets. Sunnyside also served as an important transportation hub for travelers departing from Seattle and arriving in Monroe County on Puget Sound. The mill closed in 1972 after being sold to Jardine Matheson Holdings LLC. In 1980, Sunnyside was named one of the "Top 10 Towns of All Time" by People magazine. The article detailed how Sunnyside had been thriving since gold shipments started coming through its port in 1848. By 1955, the population had grown to over 2,000 people and boasted a variety of businesses including a hospital (now King's Medical Center), library (now Cascade View Library), schools (now Monterrey Elementary School and Northlake Middle School), a post office (later renamed Northwest Community Post Office) and several churches (St John's Lutheran Church & United MethodistChurch). In 1984, Sunnyside residents voted to annex their town intoSeattle; this annexation is now known as Pioneer Square. In 1992, City Council passed an ordinance allowing dogs on city streets within 500 feet of homes statewide; this ordinance has been repealed multiple times but remains a law at city level throughout most Western states due to popular support among citizens who feel dog owners should be able to exercise their rights without fear of discrimination or prosecution from local authorities
