When the Marine Corps was created in 1907, they had a specific purpose: to protect America's shores. In 1948, the Marines were deployed to provide security for the original United Nations conference on Jerusalem – an event that helped solidify diplomatic ties between America and Israel. The U.S. Marines have since been deployed in numerous other countries around the world, and their gift history is reflective of this expansive commitment to service and peace. The first Marine Corps unit stationed in Sunnyside was Company K of Battalion L of Regiment E (later regimental strength) arriving on December 15th, 1918 from San Francisco. Company K served until it was disbanded on May 1st, 1919 due to World War I federalization. Some members of Company K are buried at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors . In 1951, when Headquarters Battery MGCsunnyside (1/5th Marines) arrived from Camp Pendleton CA they were followed by Headquarters Battery AHC sunnyside (3/8ths Marines). These two batteries provided support for artillery activities during amphibious operations off Okinawa during Operation Downfall which ended with Japan's surrender on September 2nd 1945 AHC 3/8ths Marines arrived November 9th 1950 from Camp Pendleton CA after serving as part of First Marine Division during the Korean War After more than 50 years of continuous marine deployment presence in Sunnyside there are currently over 350 marines stationed here including several detachments providing specialties such as aviation Unit 6-2MC(?), Specialty Units 4-1MC(?) and 7-1MC

This year, marines will deploy gift to Kuwait as part of Special Forces Training Center (SFTC) III training mission. The SFTC III is one of several such missions being conducted by marine forces worldwide this year in order to prepare them for potential operations against militants or other threats abroad. These deployments are designed not only provide valuable training but also underscore Marines’ dedication to readiness and sisterhood within the Armed Forces. Marines have always had a strong sense of community and brotherhood within their ranks- something that will be tested during these upcoming deployments. The Marine Corps deployed gift history in Sunnyside, Washington on December 12th, 1941. The Marines stationed in Sunnyside were assigned to the Puget Sound Naval District and participated in the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Many of the Marines who served in Sunnyside were killed or wounded during the attack.
Sunnyside is a small town in Washington state. The population was 1,500 at the 2000 census. It is located on the east side of the Cascade Mountains, about 20 miles north-northwest of Seattle. Sunnyside is part of the unincorporated community of North Bend. The first permanent settler in Sunnyside was David Beasley, who arrived in 1877 and built a cabin on the site that became Sunnyside High School. The first post office in Sunnyside was established in 1881, and its name changed to North Bend in 1903. Sunnyside has been home to a number of businesses over the years, including Northwest Glass ("Wine Country Winery"), Sunrise Tire and Rubber Company, United Dairy Workers Local No. 5 (now USWA Local 8), and Pioneer Motorsports Inc., which produced Formula One racing cars for both McLaren and Ferrari before being taken over by BMW Racing Team USA in 2003. In recent years, Sunnyside has seen increasing development as an artsy enclave surrounded by suburban homes: there are now several galleries, art stores, restaurants and movie theaters within walking distance of each other along with a variety of shops related to crafts and agriculture. In addition to its role as an important center for local music festivals such as summerStage or Northwest Folk Festival (a yearly event celebrating cultural diversity), Sunnyside also boasts a growing number of professional athletes--including three members of the Washington State basketball team--as well as some high-profile corporate headquarters nearby like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft's Redmond campus.

Sunnyside is a census-designated place in Washington State, United States. The population was 2,826 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located east of Seattle on the Elliott Bay Bridge. The name originates from "Sunny Side" which refers to the view looking out over Puget Sound from its location on the west bank of Duwamish River. The first settler in Sunnyside was James Waddell who immigrated in 1851 and adopted his nephew as his son. He built a cabin on property that now stands across Elliott Bay from Seattle's Pioneer Square. In 1854, Waddell sold what is now Sunnyside to John Atherton for $1,000USD. With this purchase, Atherton laid out Sunnyside as an organized community with a school, store and house numbered 1-9. Atherton also donated land for a water tower and farmstead beside the Duwamish River where residents would fish for salmon and other seafood during their summer evenings. By 1870, Atherton had added two more houses to Sunnyside when he purchased land northwest of present day WaMu College campus for $100USD per lot ( later renamed WaMu). In 1876, Jens Hansen started construction of what would become WaMu’s first building – an old schoolhouse which he used as a warehouse until it burned down in 1901. One year later he built another schoolhouse on current site south of WaMu’s main plaza (later renamed East Campus). This building served as both schools' gymnasiums until 1975 when WaMu replaced them with new facilities adjacent to East Campus Plaza Atherton Elementary School was built around 1915 by Nels Jensen and opened concurrent with nearby Everett High School which served students until 1959 . It became part of King’s Academy in 1965 . Classes were moved from Everett High School into Nels Jensen Elementary School following annexation by Thurston County . In 1989 Reed elementary annexe into Thurston County resulted in instruction being relocated back to Everett High School after about 25 years at Nels Jensen Elementary ..…the last extant structure completed before Schools amalgamation was an addition to existing Ellison Middle School , opening fall 2016..
