Sunnyside is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,996 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located near Seattle and Bellevue. The name "Sunnyside" originated from the location of a small farmstead on the east side of Sunnyside Lake. The first settler in what is now Sunnyside CDP was John McLaren who arrived in 1854. From 1858 to 1862, two brothers named James and George McLaren were tenant farmers at a homestead on the east side of Sunnyside Lake. In 1865, James McLaren sold his land to Jens Olsen for $8 per acre ($ in ). In 1879, Anders Larson purchased 50 acres of land along with three buildings from Jens Olsen for $14 total ($). This site would later become known as Sunshine Manor. In 1889, Kari Fjeldstad became the widow of Lars Christensen and moved to Sunnyside with her six children after he died in Norway during World War II. Kari started a grocery store called "Fjeldstad's" on First Avenue East next door to her home becoming one of the first female grocery store owners in America. She also founded the Norwegian American Club which met every Sunday night at her house until 1949 when it moved into its current building on First Avenue East across from Safeway Park.. A post office was established at Sunnyside by Chas Ament on May 25, 1898 (). It remained open until December 12th 1954 when it closed due to lack of mail volumes.. On January 1st 1897 cashier Hester Nordstrom gave birth to daughter Margaret Nordstrom at home which made Mrs. Nordstrom one hundred percent owner/operator of Nordstrom's Grocery Store #2 (). Mrs. Nordstrom continued running this store until 1975 when it closed due to competition from Safeway Park.. On July 5th 1915 an interracial wedding took place between Wanda White and Harry Dixon at nearby Lakeshore Baptist Church . After their wedding many residents began calling that church "Dixon's Chapel". Dixon conducted all types of religious services there including services for blacks before they gained full civil rights under US law

Sunnyside, Washington is an unincorporated community in The Kitsap County town of Sunnyside on the Olympic Peninsula in western Washington. It was settled by farmers in the late 1800s who were looking for a better climate than what they had back east. Today, Sunnyside is a small farming community with a few homes and a general store. The first settlers to Sunnyside were John Swayne and his family who arrived in 1892. John's father, James Swayne, had come from Terry Township, Ireland. James ran a limekiln at Sunnyside before he died in 1888. His son John inherited the kiln and started making lime for local merchants. By 1907, there were six families living at Sunnyside: Swayne, Currie, Harry (Harry) Sheehan Jr., Byrne/Boyle/Burke/Foley, MacCabe and Nulty. In 1923-24 when South Kitsap County was created from parts of Thurston County it included all of The Kitsap Peninsula south of Lake Union including Sunnyside; however most of the population resided north of Thurston along Elliott Bay until 1965 when that area became part of Seattle as well As alluvial fans flowing out from Puget Sound began washing away acres of fertile land so much so that one acre could produce two bushels per acre by 1915! In 1916 while working on his farm near present day Leroy High School George HARBORing bought three hundred acres adjacent to where he now lives and laid out lots according to Germanic style gridiron platting which still exists today within what is now known as Sunnisides Farms subdivision east off US 101 just past the intersection with SE 134th Street which was once called "Harrison Roads." Mr. HARBORing later built himself a home on this property originally known as "Sunnisides" after his acquisition thereof! Mr Home locate about 2 1/2 miles furthersouthwest on State Route 99 between Harrison Roads Road(N) & Old Umpqua Highway(E). At one time or another both roads crossed over into each other slightly northeast halfway between Harrison Roads Road(N) & Old Umpqua Highway(E). Consequently some people refer to this intersection today simply asSR 99 & SR 135th street because those are the only two places you'll find an actual physical road remnant remaining today within what used to be SUNNYSIDE! During World War II many military personnel lived nearby such as Air Force General Curtis LeMay who lived 3 miles northeast of our current location on US 101 west OF SR 135TH STREET & then just beyond SE 134TH Street on Empire Boulevard northwest OF HWY 99W (now SE 164th Street). Additionally Generals Kenney (& others), Devers (& others), Dempsey (& others) also stayed here temporarily during various periods during World War II while their unit Headquarters or camps took place elsewhere...all without ever building anything permanent here!
The first Americans to live in Sunnyside were the Potters. They arrived in 1792, when Native American Chief Washakie granted them land on the east side of Puget Sound. The Potters built a small cabin on their land and started farming. In 1825, they sold their farm to John Nicholson and his family. The Nicholson family developed a ranching business that allowed them to sell goods throughout Washington Territory.
