Sunnyside is a census-designated place in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Sunnyside is located in the northwest corner of the county and shares borders with Kent and Snohomish counties. It is bordered by North Seattle to the north, West Seattle to the east, SeaTac to the southeast, and Capitol Hill to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Sunnyside were traders from Holland who stopped on their way upriver in 1692. Jesuit missionaries began visiting Sunnyside in 1785 and by 1805 had built a small chapel on present-day Stephenson Street. In 1857, Territorial Governor Isaac Stevens called for submissions of land parcels for school purposes; Sunnyside submitted its parcel on top of Mount Rainier as part of that request. In 1863 an act passed by Territorial Congress designated Sunnyside "a new town" within King County and it became an incorporated village on July 1st of that year. In 1907 when KING-TV was established in Seattle, it moved into facilities on Union Station Road which had been leased from the Department of Public Works (DPW). That same year also saw construction begin on what would become today's Sunnyside High School which opened its doors September 14th 1908 On November 3rd 1920 voters approved annexation by Everett into King County but no action was taken until 1923 when then–King County President James Fenton recommended annexation because Everett lacked a central business district. On January 15th 1925 local residents approved annexation once again becoming part of King County under Mayor Harry Heilman's leadership Labor unrest during World War II led to increased police patrols around citizen's homes as well as restrictions on store hours due to military presence .
