Tukwila is a city in Kitsap County, Washington, United States. The population was 25,898 at the 2010 census. It is the third-largest city in Kitsap County and the twenty-seventh largest municipality in Washington. Tukwila is located on Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma and is bordered by Lake Union to the north, Mount Rainier to the east, and Thurston County to the south. The first permanent settler in what is now Tukwila was George Vancouver in 1792. The town took its name from General Phillip Kearny's wagon train that stopped there on their way from Stampede Pass to fur trading post at Fort Vancouver. The first store opened in 1824 and agriculture became an important part of Tukwila's economy until World War II when Boeing began production at Everett Air Force Base nearby. In 1951, Tukwila incorporated as a city, becoming one of only two cities in Washington without a prohibition against liquor sales which lasted until 1976. Today, much of the downtown business district remains dedicated to manufacturing with non-permanent housing developments continuing along arterial streets near Interstate 5 within walking distance of most businesses. The University of Puget Sound has its main campus located adjacent to downtown while other major institutions include Pacific Northwest Health System (PANHS), King County School District (KCSD), and Northwest Christian College (NWCC). Other locally significant employers include Boeing Co., Microsoft Corp., Everett air force base (now Edwards AFB), Aqua America Corporation (), Costco Wholesale Inc., Heartland Community Services Cooperative (), Safeway Inc., KIRO Radio Broadcasting Company (), Asahi Glass Co., () athletics teams for both boys and girls high school wrestlers (); Spokane Chiefs ice hockey team ().

Tukwila is a town in Kitsap County, Washington. The population was 8,693 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kitsap County. The first permanent settler in Tukwila was John Estes, who came to what is now Tukwila in 1853 from Oregon Territory. The town was founded on October 21, 1909 by Frank Bowers as an agricultural colony for immigrant farmers from Russia and other parts of Central Asia. The name "Tukwila" means "the place where the flowers grow." In 1912, the local newspaper published an article entitled "A Town on the Sound" which reported that: "The townsite has been attractively situated on sound shores since its inception and our people have looked forward with expectancy to this day when they can make their home permanently here...It will be pronounced an honor to become one of the numerous centres of industry and education which will develop around us." In 1916, Tukwila became a city after it was reincorporated as part of Kitsap County. At that time it had a population of 5,000 people; today it has over 12,000 residents. During World War II much of Tukwila's industrial production took place at Boeing factory located in nearby Edmonds. After the war many businesses closed down and most people left for good although some returned during economic boom times in late 1980s until present day when there are few if any remaining businesses or resident families
The city of Tukwila, Washington was founded on December 3, 1892 by settlers from what is now Seattle. The small town quickly grew and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1907, the City of Tukwila became an incorporated municipality with its own government. In 1916, the city built the first municipally owned water system in Puget Sound. The system served all of Tukwila and parts of King County. It was also the first municipally run electric system in the United States. Tukwila was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1984 for its role in American history and culture.
