This issue has been frequently cited by Mayor Nickels as one of his top priorities for improving Shoppe Districts along Tacoma Boulevard from east to west between NE First Street and Tacoma Avenue North – commonly referred to as "the shopping corridor." The mayor also plans to create pedestrian malls around SEA where shoppers can purchase items without having to leave their neighborhoods or walk long distances .
