There are many different types of Navy gifts that have been given to the University Place community over the years. One of the earliest naval gifts to be given to University Place was a set of USS Constitution buttons from 1916. These buttons were donated by Captain John Denny, commanding officer of USS Constitution (CV-4) during World War I. The donation made University Place one of the first communities in Washington State to receive souvenirs from American military veterans. Since then, Navy gifts have become an important part of campus life in University Place. Some examples includeUSS Lexington (LHD-5), which was donated in 1972; USS George Washington (CG-9), which was donated in 1984; and USS Enterprise (CVN 66), which was gifted in 1992. The Naval History Museum has even organized more than one charity golf tournament benefiting military families since 2005. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 10th at Lake Stevens Golf Course and will feature dinner provided by Microsoft Windows Computing Solutions Inc., along with proceeds benefiting USO Seattle & Tacoma PACIFIC Fleet Week

On Dec. 3, 1847, the U.S. Navy Yard was opened in University Place as a woolen-smock factory by Commodore John D. Sloat. The yard produced warships and other naval equipment for America's navy during the late 1800s and early 1900s. On May 1, 1899, the Naval Observatory was established at University Place with funds from an act of Congress passed that year to establish a national observatory on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., which would serve as a research center for science and technology education within the United States military forces. On Nov. 12, 1910, the Naval War College was established at University Place with $10,000 from President William Howard Taft to provide military officers with training in strategic planning and strategy for war against foreign nations.
University Place is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 16,824 at the 2010 census. University Place is located on the south bank of Elliott Bay and east of downtown Seattle. It is bordered by Issaquah to the north and east, Auburn to the south and west, and Lake Union to the northwest. The area that now forms University Place was first settled by American Indians in what is now King County during the 1790s. The town site was claimed by British Columbia in 1851 as part of efforts to gain control over Puget Sound region. The name "University Place" first appears on a map published in 1868 when it was renamed after Washington Agricultural College (nowWashington State University). In 1896, Congress designated University Place as one of twelve sites for schools established through an act entitled "An Act To Encourage Agriculture in America." In 1907, Congress passed an act authorizing the construction ofSeattle's first public high school. That same year saw the opening of Seattle Municipal Stadium which would become home to popular professional football teams Seahawks and Sounders FC until it burned down in 1998. In 1909, Seattle erected its first university building on land donated by Alfred Parsonage; today's Jordan Hall can be found on that site. The current campus features more than fifty buildings including eleven undergraduate colleges/schools as well as three professional divisions: law, business administration and health sciences/. The city's highest point is Mount Rainier which overlooks much of downtownSeattle except for some blocks near First Avenue Northwest where most students live off-campus or commute into Seattle each day. University Place also has several parks with plenty of recreational facilities for residents and visitors alike: Olympic Park includes a large Olympic-sized swimming pool; Green Lake offers fishing, boating and water skiing; Central Park features a playground, tennis courts and a large fountain; Elliott Bay Park provides access to hiking trails along Elliott Bay waterfront while also providing space for concerts featuring world-renowned artists such as Neil Young & Crazy Horse plus family events like Fourth Of July fireworks shows from CenturyLink Field

The neighborhood is bounded by 14th Street on the north, 20th Street on the west, Pennsylvania Avenue on the south and Constitution Avenue on the east. The surrounding area was first settled by Europeans in 1792 when they built Fort Necessity along with other posts in what is now Northwest D.C.. In 1851, Congress passed an act that designated University Place as "the scientific and engineering district of Washington." This area became known as "The Arsenal" because it housed much of Washington's heavy industry during its early days as a capital City. In 1886, Congress passed another act that createdMaryland Terrace adjacent to University Place which later became part of Georgetown University. The neighborhood changed hands several times over the years until it was annexed by Washington in 1932. Since then, it has seen significant growth and development including becoming one of the most diverse areas in D.C. With its close proximity to many major attractions such as embassies, museums and parks, University Place has become a popular destination for residents and visitors alike. One of the earliest residents of this burgeoning community was Professor George Catlin who moved from Hartford Connecticut in 1814 to begin teaching at Columbian College (now George Washington University). Catlin helped organize Columbian into a school system with elementary through college levels so that students could learn about America from scratch rather than being indoctrinated with European values at an early age like many children in his time were indoctrinated with at home. He also founded The American Weekly Review newspaper which served as an outlet for dissenting opinions against existing government policies withinWashington society during its formative years - something which he viewed as essential to democracy growing up during a time when government control over everything was pervasive across North America! The University of Washington was founded in 1862 by Seattle businessmen, entrepreneurs and educators as a private institution. The first class of students graduated in 1872. In 1881 the UW became an public school with a congressional charter. The first professor at the UW was John McLaren. In 1907, the university hired its first female professor, Cilla Sherman. By 1920 the UW had 20 faculties and 300 full-time employees. In 1924 the UW established a School of Medicine and Dentistry and in 1941 it added an engineering school. In 1965, the UW created its own athletic department to compete NCAA Division I football and basketball teams while still keeping amateur status for other sports. On May 15, 1976, voters approved a plan to merge with nearby Washington State University (WSU) creating one large institution with enormous resources that would be able to respond quickly to changes in technology and industry. The merger was completed on October 1, 1976 and the name change from Washington State University to University of Washington was announced that same day
