Woodinville is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 33,527 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of King County. Woodinville has a history that dates back to 1851 when it was founded as a small town on the west bank of the Duwamish River. In 1959, Woodinville became an incorporated municipality and in 1995 it passed a referendum making it an unincorporated community. The first settlers in what is now Woodinville were Native Americans who had been living there for centuries before that time. In 1851, Captain George Vancouver explored Puget Sound and saw land on which he thought would be good for farming and development. He named this area "Winnon" after his friend Isaac Watts who had helped him purchase some land from the Indians in 1824. By 1860, there were over 100 people living in Windonstadt; many of whom were farmers or mechanics working onSeattle's fledgling railroad system. In 1909, when Seattle began to grow rapidly and demand more space, residents of Windonstadt petitioned the City Council to annex their town so that they could have better access to education and other civic amenities available by residents of Seattle proper. The annexation request was granted and Windonstadt became part of Seattle proper with all its rights and privileges pertaining thereto including representation on city councils (although not voting). During World War II, wood- Frame structures dotting much of downtown (then known as "the Village") housed US Naval Base Kitsap until early 1945 when they moved downriver to Roslyn Heights Naval Air Station near North Bend before returning home once againometime during 1946-1948-1950s under new name: Kitsap Navy Yard #2 (KNB2). At one point KNB2 spanned most or all of Ravenna Boulevard between NW 12th Avenueand NW 14th Avenue north side! This area now contains several blocks east of NE 50th Street along Roslyn Way from NE 6th Aveto NE 10th Ave.- partial demolition still ongoing... The first permanent settler in Woodinville was George Washington and his family, who arrived in 1792. The area that is now Woodinville was part of the Yakima Nation and was known as the Shawnee Country. In 1853, the United States acquired land east of Seattle and northwest of Tacoma from the Yakama Nation. This land became known as Puget Sound. In 1859, Congress designated Woodinville as a town in King County, Washington. The town plat was filed on December 12, 1860. On May 6, 1861, Mayor Elisha Emerson dissolved the Town Council after it failed to pass a budget for the upcoming year. On November 5th 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate forces burned down a wagon train carrying goods to Seattle from Portland; this event is often incorrectly cited as being one of the causes that led to wide-spread support for Unionism throughout Washington State. In 1865, Pacific Railway Company started construction along what is now Interstate 90 near downtown Woodinville and popularized logging in this region which had been done by Native Americans for centuries before then. Logging operations continued until about 1906 when those activities were replaced by agriculture due to better soil conditions elsewhere in the state at that time. In 1937-38 an aerial photo taken by USAAF's 447th Bomb Squadron shows development around Woodinville including new housing estates erected after World War II
The community of Woodinville was first settled in the 1800s by Scots-Irish civilians who came to the area to escape religious persecution. The community was named after John James Wood, a Scottish immigrant who purchased land in what is now Woodinville in 1802. The first store in the town was built on the corner of Seventh and Washington Streets in 1820. In 1835, the population of Woodinville grew to over 100 people and began to build homes. By 1840, the town had a school, Methodist chapel, and two stores. A post office was established in 1840, and by 1850, there were also two churches in town. By 1860, the population had reached 220 people and development started to take hold with new businesses being founded including a cotton gin and flour mill. In 1865, fire destroyed most of what remained of Woodinville before it reestablished itself as a small community with six residents. By 1870, there were ten households and four churches; however, due to continued growth rates within the community during this time period (particularly oil exploration),Woodinville became an incorporated municipality by 1880. The population peaked at 300 people around 1900 but declined over ensuing decades due to various factors including declines in industry and social discontentment among its residents during World War I; however, it officially annexed into King County on April 6th 1925 following annexation proceedings that took three years
