Woodinville was founded by Ishmael Crouch in 1854 as a small farming community on the east side of Lake Washington. In 1876, it became an incorporated town and continues to be so today. The first European to visit what is now Woodinville was George Vancouver who arrived on July 14, 1792 during his Third Voyage of Discovery and charted the Puget Sound area between Olympia and Seattle. He named the site "Winnipeg" after the then current day city in Manitoba, Canada. As early as 1824, residents of what would become Woodinville were planning to establish themselves as a town on land they had acquired from John Jacob Astor in exchange for goods he had shipped back overland from New York City via frozen Lake Superior ports. With this new source of income; however, development initially stalled due to lack of resources and interest from settlers until around 1830 when Colonel James Montero purchased additional land within present-day downtown Woodinville from Doniphan Brothers for $2 per acre ($40 total). The result was a dramatic increase in population with Montero’s purchase as well as construction of various roads and bridges that helped connect his new community with nearby farms and businesses throughout downtown including such future landmarks like Stinson Beach Lighthouse (now closed), Mount Baker Hotel (later known asthe Hyatt Regency), & Pacific Place grocery store which still stands today adjacent to CenturyLink Center just south of First Avenue North. Meanwhile back closer to where we are standing today…on Maynard Street just north of First Avenue North there was another important milestone event that helped shape who we are today – Our Town Hall! This building housed many different services including courtrooms & meeting spaces until it burned down in 1959 – but not before serving our community well for over 100 years! Today you can find remnants of both its brick exterior & interior walls inside Oneonta Park across First Avenue North from CenturyLink Center – evidence that even though times have changed quite a bit since then; this old infrastructure has held up remarkably well despite some hard knocks! Today's Greenwood Hills neighborhood is located largely within present-day Downtown Woodinville borders along 5th Ave NE extending NW towards Interstate 5 & Stadium Way NE - making it easily accessible by car or bus from most neighborhoods within King County while still retaining its own unique character all thanks to our amazing Mayor’s Office which manages everythingfrom parks1to transportation options2& more!3
In 1834, the United States government purchased a parcel of land in what is now Woodinville from the British Empire. Washington Territory was created from this land on July 14, 1835. The following year, the Territorial Legislature approved a new Constitution which provided for Washington Territory to be divided into two parts: The upper part would be known as "McGowan County" and the lower part would be known as "Langdon County." The first county commissioners were chosen in November 1836. On January 7, 1838, Langdon County was organized and James M. Grant became its first sheriff. On February 2, 1840, McGowan County was organized and George W. Smith became its first county commissioner. In October of that year, Washington Territory residents voted to annex Langdon County and name it after themselves – McGowan County Annexed!
