The Washington National Guard Museum in Woodinville, Washington, has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The museum is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting the history of the National Guard in Washington state. The first national guard unit in Washington was organized on July 4, 1825. It was known as Company G of Infantry. The company served under Captain George Vancouver during the Mexican-American War. Afterward, Company G became Company D of Infantry and served with distinction at various battles and skirmishes throughout the American Civil War. In 1865, after the Union victory at Emancipation Proclamation, Company D was decommissioned and its members were sent home. However, some members decided to re-enlist and become part of Confederate forces fighting for Southern independence. On April 12, 1865,Company D joined Confederate General Jubal Early’s army on their march from Winchester to Petersburg. Later that year they fought at First Manassas battlefield where they lost 3 officers and 36 enlisted men Killed or Wounded: 5 Captains (George Vancouver included) 5 Majors (Thomas Meagher included), 24 lieutenants (Daniel Boone included), 2 sergeants (John Custer included), 1 corporal (James Freeman included). Of these casualties only 2 officers were killed outright; one by a sniper shot while leading his men into battle, and another died of disease shortly afterwards. After hostilities ended in 1865 Companies A & B were combined into a single battalion known as “Washington Battalion” which served with distinction against guerrilla insurgents throughout Reconstruction era southwestern United States until 1903 when it finally disbanded due to lack of volunteers following an increase in draft deferments for military service during World War I . In 1924 Congress authorized reactivation of “Washington Battalion” as Headquarters Battery #2 U S Marine Corps Reserve which remained active until 1951 when it was disestablished again due to budgetary constraints . Today the museum offers an overview of both pre-war and wartime history for visitors who want information about how militias have evolved over time including events like 9/11th anniversary commemoration ceremonies honoring fallen soldiers from Woodinville detachment along with displays on modern weaponry used by guardsmen such as rifles from 1903 through contemporary times . Woodinville is a city in King County, Washington, United States. The population was 61,824 as of the 2010 census. In 1916 construction began on what would become Seattle's first airfield – Renton Airport – which served local residents and travelers alike until 1941 when World War II ended without any planes landing or taking off at Renton Airport. On October 15th 1961 Microsoft founder Bill Gates visited Renton Airport while attending an event organized by then-Mayor Norm Coleman in support of Boeing’s new 747 airplane program – this event was also attended by then Vice President Al Gore who later mentioned Gates’ visit during his speech at Rice University . As technology advanced over time so too did Microsoft's involvement with airport infrastructure; starting with their buildout of Terminal 2 at SeaTac International Airport in 1969 which led to their current presence across all three airports within SEA .
