Huntington is a town in Huntington County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 9,959 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1827 as a station on the Ohio and Erie Canal. In 1865, it became the capital of Huntington County. The first gun store in Huntington opened in 1868. At one time, all of West Virginia had prohibition laws; however, this changed after the stroke of President Abraham Lincoln in April 1865. As part of that change, guns were no longer considered contraband and began to be bought and sold freely throughout much of the country as part of general liberalism during that time period. Gun control has been an issue throughout its history with various forms over time including universal background checks for all sales which have been supported by both sides of the aisle in most cases but not always implemented consistently across states (e.g., Kentucky’s $200 check-off requirement for gun purchases). Huntington, West Virginia is a small town located in Huntington County, West Virginia. The population was 6,898 at the 2010 census. The town is named for Samuel Huntington who donated land for the community. The first post office opened in 1871 and the current post office was established in 1907. The Huntington Coal Company was founded in 1881 and operated until 1957. It produced coal from the area that now includes Huntington and portions of Parkersburg, WV. The company closed its doors after years of decline because of competition from othercoal companies and advances in technology that made it possible to produce coal without using water or emissions from burning coal. In 1907, Huntingdon Electric Cooperative became operational with a generating station on land donated by Samuel Huntington. This cooperative provided electricity to residents of Huntington and parts of Parkersburg until 1978 when they were merged into Penn Central Railway Company (PECO). PECO continued to provide electricity to residents through Conestoga Power Generation until it shut down in 2006 due to financial difficulties. In 2016, PECO reopened as an electric utility under the nameWest Virginian Energy Corporation with a new generation plant that began operations in 2018 Huntington has experienced rapid growth over recent decades due to its location within driving distance of major metropolitan areas including Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky University-Wright State University-and Washington D.C.-all making it easy for people to get around without having to leave their homes According to the 2015 US Census data, there are now over 60 businesses open inside of walking distance of downtown including restaurants such as Subway sandwich shops and Dunkin Donuts; health care favorites like Kaiser Permanente outpatient clinics and Blue Cross Blue Shield outpatients clinics; professional services such as law enforcement officers and firefighters; small business owners; retirees; students; dog walkers/walkers by night; daycare providers; artists; musicians; farmers market participants

Huntington was a small town in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 1,566 at the 2010 census. Huntington is located on the Ohio River and is bordered by Southeastern West Virginia to the north, Preston County to the east, Mingo County to the south and Webster County to the west. The first European settlers in what is now Huntington were French colonists who arrived in 1624. They named their new land after François de la Roche-Posse (1596-1660), an explorer and general of France who had traveled through present-day Mingo and Jefferson counties. In 1777, General George Washington led his army through Mingo and Preston Counties during his march across western Virginia for the purpose of destroying Indian resistance to British rule. A group of white men from Huntington founded a log cabin near where Interstate 81 currently exits Mingo County on December 10, 1876 as part of a wagon train transporting goods from Wheeling downriver for Pittsburgh. The town was platted on December 12th by Wm Ewart Brougham with James Murchison as surveyor. The post office opened in 1881 under jurisdiction of Crawfordville; it moved its offices to Huntington in 1905 when that county was organized into four districts: section 1 included all of Mingo and Webster Counties; section 2 included most of Preston and Wyaneta Counties; section 3 included all but a tiny corner of Randolph County; and section 4 included only portions of Webster and Logan Counties. The first schoolhouse in Huntington was built in 1881 along with other buildings around town including a Masonic Lodgehall which served as court house until 1907 when that building burned down. A new school building was erected between 1912-1914 just east of downtown (now known as First Baptist Church). This building served as both public schools throughout much of its history before being converted into apartments beginning in 1978/79 following passage by then Governor William Donald Schaefer into law providing state assistance towards reducing high school dropouts rates within local jurisdictions In 1926 construction began on what would become one Ofallon Drive housing development which would eventually include over 100 homes In 1932 construction began on another housing development called Circuit Court Hill which would eventually include over 150 homes In 1955 construction began on what would become One Financial Plaza which became one OFALLON DRIVE later that year In 1967 construction began on One Financial Plaza II which became one HUNTINGTON SQNDS later that year In 1979 construction began upon completion Ofallon Drive II – now known as One Financial Plaza – becoming one OFALLON DRIVE once again
Huntington was founded by James Robertson in 1786. The town was named for General John Huntington, who fought in the American Revolution. Huntington became a major center of industry and commerce after its foundation. In 1873, the first oil well was drilled in Huntington. The town's economy changed again when coal became the dominant fuel source in the area.
