The Allouez Legion Ammunition Company was organized on May 10, 1903, at the suggestion of General George C. Marshall during the Spanish-American War. The company was authorized to produce and deliver ammunition to the military forces of the United States. The original allouez legionnaire uniform consisted of a blue blouse with white stripes running down each side, a sergeant's stripe in between each shoulder, and dark blue pants with white stripes running down them also. On November 1, 1906, artillerymen from the company were called into service for duty in Mexico City during World War I as part of the American Expeditionary Force. After serving their country honorably and returning home on July 15th 1920, they were again called into service when Hawaii became an automatic US territory following statehood in 1959. Allouez is a town in Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 577 at the 2010 census. Allouez is part of the Green Bay–Stout Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Allouez was John Allouez who arrived in 1846. He built a cabin on the bluffs above the present day town site. In 1851, he married Ann Gentry and they began to farm in what is now the center of town. In 1857, they erected a log schoolhouse which served as their local government center until it burned down in 1916. The first post office was established here in 1858 and lasted until 1865 when it moved to Waukesha. The first store opened here in 1860 and continued operating until it closed its doors in 1960. The original ranches that were located around present day Allouez were all lost by 1893 but some evidence indicates that some may have been re-established after that time including an early blacksmith shop which still stands."," In 1915, Drury Lumber Company construction started on a sawmill within sight of downtown Allouez which would soon become one of Green Bay's most successful businesses.","First telephone service started operations from this mill on July 25th 1912.","Later this mill became known as Holley Manufacturing Company.","The current Mill building was completed circa 1957 and has become home to many local businesses such as Verizon Wireless., Coal mine operators used this plant for over 100 years starting with William Ritchie who mined coal from 1897-1925."
