Baraboo, Wisconsin is a town in and the county seat of Door County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 9,726 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago–Des Plaines–Highland Park metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Baraboo were the Menomonee Tribe who lived there before their removal in 1851. The first post office was established in 1853. In 1868, Baraboo became a city and was renamed after Vice President Andrew Johnson. In 1907, it merged with neighboring village of West Allis to form one municipality. The name change came about because residents of both villages wanted to be associated with one another and they all called themselves "Baraboo" rather than individual townships or villages having separate names like "West Allis", "Menomonee Falls", etc.). The economy of Baraboo has always been based on agriculture although manufacturing has also played a role over time including making shoes for Sears Roebuck and other companies as well as making refrigerators and air conditioners for local businesses. Some industries that have left behind are papermaking which stopped operations in the late 1990s but continues to produce paper products such as bottles for soda pop manufacturers; printing services such as those used by Gannett Company; lumberyard production; meatpacking; plastics manufacturing (including PVC manufacture); home textiles (including T-shirts made by American Apparel); and recreation including summer camps, golf tournaments, swimming pools, country club events/community centers etc. In recent years many small businesses have closed or relocated due to difficult economic times while larger businesses have thrived thanks to growth in online retailing and other digital media channels which require less physical space than traditional brick-and-mortar stores

Baraboo is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the east side of the Fox River. The population was 1,629 at the 2010 census. The name "Baraboo" comes from an Algonquian word meaning "place where beavers dam." The first settler in what is now Baraboo was Nicholas Wiseman in 1838. He organized a group of men to look for land in this area and they named their company the Milwaukee & Mississippi Railroad Company. Wiseman also founded a school and post office here in 1839, which functioned until 1863 when it moved to Racine. In 1865, Baraboo incorporated as a village under the name of West Pointe. In 1903, after Waukesha County was created, Baraboo became its county seat and remained that way until it lost its status as county seat in 1998 when Racine took over responsibility for that role from Baraboo. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all of it land. As of 2010, there were 1,629 people living in Barabootownship (or simply "Baraboos"), which included 924 households and 186 families residing within the city limits; 319 households and 133 families resided outside of City Limits; 2 individuals lived permanently or intermittently outside any city boundaries; and 8 non-citizen aliens who had permanent resident status but did not reside withinCity Limits or regularly attend services available withinCity Limits due to their citizenship or residency rights with another country/nation than Canada or Mexico
The town of Baraboo, Wisconsin was founded in 1837 by John P. Knoop and his family. The first post office in the town was established in 1838. The town quickly grew and by 1860 it had a population of over 100 people. By 1870, Baraboo had become an important local commercial center with a variety of businesses including several stores, a tannery, three flour mills, and a grain elevator. In 1916, the city of Milwaukee annexed the towns of Baraboo and Wahpeton to form the city of Milwaukee.
