Burlington, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. Burlington is part of the Milwaukee metropolitan area. The city is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan and has a population density of 561 people per square mile (209/km²). It straddles 18 counties and has an area of 10 square miles (27 km²). The first settlers in what is now Burlington were farmers who arrived in 1836 from Canada. They built their homes around a small mill they constructed themselves and started to grow corn, beans, potatoes, flour, and other crops. The first store was opened in 1840 by James Purdy and his brother-in-law John Flinn as Jardine's Store. In 1851, Burlington became a town under the name of Whitefish Bay when it merged with Racine County. The first post office was established in Burlington on October 15, 1851 by Eli Lilly and Company employees Denton Hinsdale and business partner Samuel Brownell as Dearborn Post Office #1. In 1861, when Chicago Annexed Milwaukee County, Whitefish Bay municipality consolidated with it to form Milwaukee County because there were no other municipalities within that county with similar demographics or infrastructure for providing services such as education or health care which Chicago had planned to provide through its annexation plan. After Milwaukee County was created, Burlington became one of its first cities because it shared borders with both Milwaukee County and Racine County.. In 1902, power plants were built at two sites in Burlington – one near First Avenue South and Water Street while another site was located just east of Waukesha Avenue near Interstate 94 – these plants provided electricity for much of downtownMilwaukee until 1933 when all electric services were turned over to the citys municipally owned utility company based out of City Hall called "Prairie Power." The current Convention Center complex designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill opened on November 4th 1984 during large celebrations for completion of new water mains being installed throughout the city center sponsored by Mayor Tom Barrett after years Of planning following construction completion year 1979 which began during former Mayor Dick Gephardt's time as Councilor

Burlington, Wisconsin is a small town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest incorporated city in Wisconsin and one of the most diverse cities in America. Burlington is also home to Green Bay Packers and NFL player Julius Peppers. The village was founded by Finnish immigrants in 1854 as a tiny community on Lake Michigan's east shore. The village grew rapidly and by 1870 Burlington had a population of 1,500 people. In 1892 Burlington became an incorporated city when it annexed neighboring Springport and West Allis municipalities. Believed to be among the first American towns to issue municipal bonds, Burlington became post-war a center for industry with manufacturing including machine tools, radios, refrigerators and other appliances; automotive production began as well but soon slowed due to competition from larger Milwaukee suburbs. However, during its heyday Burlington boasted some of the largest libraries in America with more than 2 million volumes housed within its walls; however commercial development gradually took over these functions until the late 20th century when Burlington effectively lapsed into obscurity save for occasional special events such as this year'sicentennial celebration which saw significant redevelopment of downtown areas including an expansion of both library facilities and new retail stores.). In recent years there has been renewed interest in Burlington thanks to its unique architecture – such as its recently renovated fire station – cultural attractions (the nearby Green Bay Packers football team's training camp is now located there), natural resources (especially dairy products) and opportunities for dining out (particularly along State Street near City Hall). However much work still needs to be done before Vermont becomes an urban center comparable in size or diversity to either Minneapolis or Chicago – two purported "purple cities."
Burlington is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, and the seat of Burlington County. The population was 46,623 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-most populous city in Wisconsin. It is located on Lake Michigan across from Detroit and across from Dearborn, Michigan. The original settlement was founded by French settlers in 1763 as Fort Gratiot. The site now known as Burlington had been laid out by surveyors in 1824 as part of a plan to create a system of roads running through central Wisconsin. The town was platted in 1836 and named for General John Custer, who led an American cavalry unit during the Battle of Little Bighorn near Burlington on July 26, 1876. When Congress created Milwaukee County in 1838, Burlington became one of its first towns within that county. In 1862, Burlington became the capital of new Milwaukee County when it was separate from older Waukesha County. In 1895, when Milwaukee County merged with Racine County to form Lake County, Burlington became one of its original cities within that new county. In 1928, when Marquette COUNTY was established and included parts of Milwaukee and Racine Counties (including Burlington), Burlington became an integral part of that new county government and continued to be its capital until 1938 when that county's government moved to West Allis (now Madison).
