Coffee has been a part of the Fitchburg community for over 100 years. The beans are grown in modest amounts near the town, and then roasted and packaged. The first coffee shop opened in 1872 in what is now the Civic Center. In 1924, Mr. and Mrs. George Henniker purchased the business from their brother-in-law Harry Caldwell, who had started it as a small grocery store on Main Street. They renamed it the Fitchburg Coffee House andrew henniker and Ernestine henniker began to roast beans for customers at their home on First Avenue in 1941. The shop closed in 1957 but reopened as Lighthouse Coffee & Tea house in 1959 after being moved from its original location on Third Street just inside of town limits. In 1984, they merged with another local business, The Dutch Bros., which operated until 2000 when it too closed its doors due to financial troubles. In 2006, Joe's Coffee opened within walking distance of the Civic Center, bringing new life to the once-dominant Fitchburg coffee market. Since that time, other coffee shops have opened around town such as Flagship Coffee (2007), Moon'ns (2009), Peet's Place (2011) and Dutch Bros.' own Bazaar Cafe(2013). These cafes offer unique flavors and experiences not found at many other businesses in town where coffee is generally only an adjunct part of a larger menu or drink selection

Fitchburg is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. The town is located in the Driftless Area of central Wisconsin and is part of the Fitchburg Micropolitan Statistical Area. Fitchburg was founded as a village in 1854 by John A. Fitch and others who surveyed and laid out the townsite that became Fitchburg. The first post office opened in 1855, but due to its remote location it did not receive much mail until after incorporation as a town in 1857. The original courthouse was built on State Street in what is now downtown Fitchburg; it served as both the local government center for the surrounding villages and also as a courthouse for all of northwestern Wisconsin during the 19th century. In 1896, ownership of the building passed from county to city government, which used it until 1978 when it was taken apart and rebuilt into three structures on Park Place – one now known as Historic District 2 – while also creating new sidewalks along State Street throughout downtown Fichburght (the first such project completed within city limits). In 1908, when Interstate 80 bypassed Wausau downriver, Lowertown Township merged with neighboring North Town Township to form what would become Fitchburg; this merger caused some controversy because North Town had wanted to keep its own name while Lowertown wanted to be part of downtown Fichburght proper again (although they still maintain some political interaction). Downtown business continued growing even after I-80 bypassed town boundaries; over time businesses relocated from their old buildings into newer ones around Park Place including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wachovia Bank), law firms (Shepard Hale LLP & Goulds LLP), retail stores (Bergmeier's Department Store), and restaurants such as Joe's Pizza & Brewing Company among others. Despite this growth, however, Downtown experienced several declines beginning around 2007 due to an economic recession that hit many parts of northwest Wisconsin hard; by 2013 Downtown had regained most if not all its lost business since before those tough times began although there are still some vacant storefronts remaining near Main Street serving mainly lower income residents today rather than commercial tenants like decades past. Today’s Downtown contains many interesting examples of early 20th century architecture including two large brick buildings designed by noted Milwaukee architect George Gibbs which serve as social clubs for older adults called “The Gibbs House”and “The Friendly Gables” respectively; two other important buildings are a two story Art Deco theater once occupied by Northwestern University before being demolished in favor of more modern facilities later upon completion of I-290 eastward through town boundary then south back across state line into Iowa City where it met I-30 just outside Oconomowoc originally becoming one municipality with these changes overnight making Downtown what we see today instead of just another faceless block on State Street near Interstate 439 originally Thanks Governor Walker #FITCHBURG pic.twitter.com/2HN0cjKL1b — Mayor Dan McGrath (@danmcgrath) November 12, 2018 In recent years there have been efforts made by various groups within or outside town limits to improve relations between different parts of town while Still trying preserve unique aspects that make Downtown unique unlike any other place acrossnorthwestWI & beyond

Fitchburg, Wisconsin is a city in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Dane County. The population was 33,854 at the 2010 census, making it the ninth-largest city in Wisconsin and the twelfth largest in the United States. Fitchburg is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha metropolitan area. Fitchburg was founded by German immigrants in 1836 as a small community on Hwy 9 near present-day Waukesha Countyline. It grew quickly and by 1857 had a population of 3200 people. On July 1, 1861, Fitchburg became a town after becoming an organized village under Act 4 of 1862. In 1870, when Milwaukee annexed Waukesha County to form its new municipal boundaries, Fitchburg became one of its seven townships within Milwaukee Township (later called Walker). For many years it functioned as a separate municipality with its own government and courts but eventually merged into Milwaukee Township on March 14, 1901 following approval by voters in a referendum held that year. On April 15, 1907 Fitchburg saw its first tornado when an EF4 tornado affected portions of Racine and Waukesha Counties for about 20 minutes before dissipating over open fields nearpresent-day Greenfield Village northwest of town Limits
Fitchburg, Wisconsin was founded in 1854 by Levi Strauss and Alfred Vail. The town was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who was killed in the Battle of Little Bighorn. The Strauss brothers, who were also founders of the town, ran a woolen mill here until it closed in the early 1900s. In 1910, Fitchburg became a city.
