Germantown is a small town in the United States located in the town of Beloit, Wisconsin. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. Germantown is part of the Beloit–Wausau metropolitan area. The first settler in Germantown was Nicholas G. Herring who arrived in 1836 and built a log cabin on what is now Meridian Street. Herring's cabin became the nucleus around which Germantown developed as a small village. By 1840, there were twenty-one people living in Germantown. A second group of settlers arrived in 1845 and built a gristmill on present day US Highway 11 near where Big Creek flows into the Mississippi River. The mill provided basic goods for local residents and also manufactured flour, saltpeter, candles, cheese and other items necessary to sustain life in a frontier setting. In 1854, an act was passed by Congress which allowed for township formation within Dodge County. Accordingly, three townships – Beloit (now Wausau), Prairie du Chien and Germantown – were formed from parts of Dodge County and named after those adjacent to their borders:Beloit Township east of US Highway 41;Prairie du Chien Township north of US Highway 41;and Germantown Township west of US Highway 41). These townships boundaries changed again when Dodge County was merged with Norfolk County in 1907 to form one larger county GermantOWN COUNCILMANSHIP DISTRICT No 1 - organized May 6th 1913 On November 3rd 1912 voters approved amendment to the Town Charter providing for establishment of an elected school board instead of having village trustees serve four year terms staggered through January 1st annually . This change effected education throughout all grades within the Village including high school graduates until their graduation from college or university ; earlier entrance into college could only be achieved through prior academic achievement or scholarship opportunities available at private colleges/universities outside our Village limits On January 1st 1917 all grades were reorganized under new Constitution Committee Management Districts called "Districts" with separate trustee functions each viz School Board Elections & Supervision Trustee Functions Each District includes 4 Vote Seats
