They named it The Bean Shop and began serving up delicious coffee from their small shop on Main Street in Greenfield. In the 18th century, coffee beans were ground and brewed using water and spices. Coffee was then sold at small cafes throughout Europe. The first coffee houses were open in London in 1739. By 1830, coffee had spread to New York City, Philadelphia, and other major cities. In 1865, Dutchman Jan Janszoon van Beuningen brought over some of the first whole bean espresso machines from Italy to Java for use by the Dutch East Indies Company (INDOCHE). This new way of making coffee helped start the modern day espresso craze that continues today! In 1912, Luigi Beccaria created one of the first official espresso machines when he designed an Italian-made machine called La Pavoni that could produce 1 or 2 ounces (30 or 50 grams) of pureed coffee per minute! Greenfield was founded by the Holland family in 1837. The town was originally named for Greenfield, Massachusetts, where the Holland family had come from. The first settler in Greenfield was John A. Holland. By 1850, the town had a population of 100 people and consisted of a few stores and a school. In 1854, the first post office was established in Greenfield. In 1857, the first railroad arrived in Greenfield and soon there were several businesses in town including a hotel, dry goods store, grocery store, blacksmith shop, livery stable and more. By 1865, there were over 200 people living in Greenfield with five churches and two schools. The first physician to practice in Greenfield was Drs. Joris Brouwer and Cornelius Hennepin both located here until their deaths in 1902 and 1906 respectively. In 1870-71, due to an cholera pandemic that hit Milwaukee at this time (the pandemic is also known as Black Death), many farmers moved into the townships surrounding Greenfield to escape the disease’s effects which resulted in an increase of businesses and residents within those townships as well as growth outside of them such as Bartlett Township (incorporated 1912). The Panic of 1893 did much damage to small business owners throughout Wisconsin during this time period which led to many closures throughout the state including one instance where entire villages closed their doors after failed attempts by entrepreneurs to open new stores during what is known as “Black Thursday” when stocks crashed on Wall Street worldwide followed by widespread failures for individual businessmen across America leading some people to believe that business would never again be viable anywhere outside of giant cities or booming states such as New York City or Boston after that fateful day back home when prices for goods collapsed nationwide causing mass unemployment throughout those regions). However despite losing significant amounts of money during that Panic years prior which saw rates rise for foodstuffs like flour up 50 percent between 1892-1893 according to state examination records) local merchants managed somehow still manage someway keep their businesses afloat despite difficult times while larger companies went bankrupt or simply ceased operations altogether amidst layoffs/doubling down on prices resulting either from natural disasters liketornadoes striking areas near major stations along railways during this time period; other events like Bakkt & Bitcoin futures trading starting occurring right before & immediately following stock market crashes around US markets), making it all seem barely imaginable at best considering how various parts Of society could go into complete chaos given enough impetus but fortunately things calmed down eventually culminating with increased trade volumes through technological advancements brought about mainly by advances within banking industry not just nationally although at least one previous example Pointing towards possible future revolutions inside centralized economies if not solved) In 1896-97 an outbreak of tuberculosis took place among workers employed at a brewery near Milwaukee thus ending production there until 1919 when it finally been resolved thanks largely to better hygiene practices being put into place thereby preventing further spread among workers however even then cases continue sporadically popping up amongst certain groups/workers still working at breweries today?). By 1928 almost all manufacturing had ended except for mining & leather products however some small remaining businesses continued operating despite difficult times while overall employment slid below prewar levels becoming rather depressed especially amongst women who lost out on important factory jobs during THIS TIME Period). In 1951-1953 most homesickness began slowly returning back home after combat soldiers have been withdrawn from service therefore increasing demand for housing here since typically once discharged servicemen return home they are no longer interested or able to find work here anymore); however over 155 years later there has yet TO BE ONEGREENFIELD WISCONSIN MANYSTOWNING BUSINESS THAT HAS CLOSED DOWN AS A RESULT OF WAR OR EMERGENCY!?!
Greenfield, Wisconsin was founded in 1836 by Peter Costigan. The town was named for the green field that once thrived there. Costigan and his family were the first to settled in Greenfield. He built a sawmill and home here, which is still standing today. The town grew quickly, and by 1854 it had a population of 100 residents. In 1850, Greenfield became part of the new state of Wisconsin. In 1862, Greenfield was incorporated as a village. In 1916, Greenfield became an incorporated city. The townsite at what is now known as blocks 1-3 on State Street was donated to the city by its founders in 1916 as part of their efforts to keep the community together during times of upheaval such as World War I or World War II. At that time, blocks 1-3 were mostly farmland with some buildings scattered around it among trees and bushes given to the city for use as parks or public square areas.
