Little Chute was founded in 1856 by James and Anna (Hansen) Little and named after their infant son, Little Chute. The town lies on the south side of the Kettle River and has a total area of . It features rolling hills with small streams running through it. The climate is mild year-round with average temperatures ranging from during summertime to during wintertime. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 2,724 people, 1,065 households, and 851 families residing in the town. As manufacturing declined, people turned to agriculture and tourism as mainstay sources of revenue. Agriculture has been the primary industry since at least 1920; however, there has been some growth in industries such as fishing and lumbering over time.
