In 1915, the city passed an ordinance that allowed citizens to Purchase Shotguns without having to obtain a license. This ordinance was repealed in 1933. In 1932, the state legislature banned Automatic Weapons and Ammunition by passing S.B. 158. This lawallowed only individuals who were licensed armorers or hunters to own Automatic Weapons and Ammunition. The exception was made for members of the military who were authorized to possess these weapons pursuant to War Powers Act of 1917 (Pt II). In 1934, the state legislature passed S.B 41 which regulated handguns and provided for registration of handguns with the county sheriff and requires fingerprinting for all handgun possession. Additionally, this bill required purchasers of handguns must present documentation such as proof of residence or income if they resided out of town on their property where they would keep their handgun(s). The new regulations went into effect on July 1st, 1935
