The history of the Marshfield Army Post is rich and intertwined with the community that surrounds it. The post was first established in 1854 as a military depot on what is now the corner of Second and Wisconsin Streets. It would later be moved to its current location, just east of town, in 1871. The post saw service during both World War I and World War II, serving as a base for artillery and infantry training. In 1948, the post was merged with neighboring Fort Dodge Army Post to form the present day Marshfield Army Post Command. Today, the post remains an important part of local defense and provides a place for soldiers from throughout the region to come together for recreational activities, education opportunities, and networking. The community has also donated many items to the command such as barracks buildings, weapons caches, and even an apple orchard!

The town was incorporated as a village in 1902 and became an independent municipality when it was reincorporated as an unincorporated township on March 3, 1907. On January 1, 1959, it became an official city of Marshfield when it gained its current size from combining portions of both villages and townships into one entity

Marshfield is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River. The population was 6,039 at the 2010 census, making it the fifth-largest municipality in Wisconsin and one of the ten most populous cities in the United States. Marshfield is also home to Madison, Wisconsin's largest city and its cultural and commercial center. The first permanent settler in what is now Marshfield was Nicholas Hutton, who arrived there in 1838. He built a log cabin on the site where he currently resides. A post office called Marshfield was established in 1843, and remained open until 1865. For many years it served as an outpost on both sides of the river for stagecoaches travelling between Milwaukee and Chicago; following railroad construction through that area, however, Marshfield became truly a town by 1875. In 1870 Wm Fenton laid out an adjacent piece of land to become what is today Downtown Marshfield proper; this part of town received its name from him when he opened up some land near downtown as part of his business venture into real estate development. Downtown Marshfield began to rapidly grow during World War II as local businesses sprang up to support servicemen stationed nearby at Camp Randall (later Madison Air Force Base). Many residents came out to work in industry or service camp life during that time period; today many buildings still remain from those early days including Wernherstadt's Store which closed down in 1973 but remains standing as a museum/diner complex next door! In 1964dq1 Downtown Marshalields official incorporation drew nearly 2200 residents -making it one of only two American towns over 1000 population incorporated with such force during that year alone! This rapid growth continued through much of the 1970s thanks largely to a number of new housing developments completed along with expanded shopping opportunities available at newly developed Interstate 94 northbound past downtown marshFIELD - finally bringing true urbanism within easy reach for all! It wasn't until after 9/11 that things started slowing down somewhat for Downtown Marshfelders - although they have seen recent growth again thanks largely to new retail development along I-94 just east Of downtown marshFIELD... ensuring yet another eraof continuous economic vitality & progressiveness for our community!
Marshfield was first settled in 1836 when the Wabash and Chicago Railroad extended its line from Racine to Marshfield. The town was named for Colonel Ebenezer Marsh, a pioneer settler. The town's first store opened in 1838. In 1851, the town had a population of about 150 people. By 1870, the population had grown to about 500 people. The town was incorporated as a village in 1902. In 1961, the village merged with the city of Marshfield.
