Pewaukee is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River near Milwaukee. The population was 15,824 at the 2010 census. Pewaukee was founded in 1854 by John and Maria Kapp as a farmstead on the present-day site of what is now Pewaukee Lake. The name means "place where there are willows." In 1887, the city of Milwaukee annexed part of Pewaukee to form its own municipality. In 1951, Milwaukee annexed all of Journal Sentinel County (including Pewaukee) to form its own municipality known as Milwaukee County. The merging created an urban overlay for rural residents in both municipalities that continues to this day; however, most people who live within the city limits of Milwaukee are still considered to be part of their respective hometowns even though they live in another municipality. John Kapp's descendants continue to maintain a small agricultural operation in Pewaukee today and also operate a branch library which opened in 1907 on land donated by his widow, Maria Kapp Kapp. It is one of only a few libraries remaining from those merged municipalities and remains open seven days per week despite having no municipal funding or support from either government entity anymore.

Pewaukee is a small town in Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,829 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Waukesha County. The name "Pewaukee" means "place where the meadow meets the river." The first settlers in Pewaukee were Swedish immigrants who arrived there in 1847. The post office was established in 1852 and named after Captain John Pew (1784-1872), an American Revolutionary War officer and member of the State Assembly from Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. In 1859, three brothers founded the town of Pewaukee on land that they had bought from David Thompson north of Milwaukee. That same year, Chauncy Hengst organized a church which became known as First Methodist Episcopal Church of Pewaukee. In 1865, a group of fishermen on the Fox River discovered iron ore near what is now Pewaukee. A company was formed to prospect for this ore and soon began producing steel wire products and other minerals outbuildings began to rise around downtown Pawtucket with businesses like Northern Electric Company (later Comcast) opening up in early years such as J & J's Bakery followed by Kresge's grocery store in 1920 before becoming Macy's department store when it built its current building on North Third Street near Interstate 94 in 1949. By 1935, all but one business had closed down due to economic competition from Sears Roebuck & Co.'s outlets located closer to Chicagoans shopping for clothes than people living outside of Milwaukee County could afford or afford to go into during those days! However by 1947 when Walmart opened their first location just east of downtown Pawtucket there were enough stores open within reasonable driving distance for most people within our community to have access to quality clothing without having leave home! This growth has continued through today with over 100 stores throughout our community including more than 20Walmart locations across Waukesha County alone! This growth has also led to increased employment opportunities with many companies locating here because we are a relatively affordable place to locate your business with good schools nearby as well as easy access to highway I-94 which makes transportation very convenient making it easy for companies not only located here but also mall/ Targa locations across town if desired!
Pewaukee was founded in 1854 by John Pew and his brothers. The town was named after a small creek that ran through it. The first post office was established in 1856, and the first store opened in 1860. In 1865, Pewheimer became a city. The population of Pewaukee grew to over 1,000 people by 1870. By 1900, the population had increased to over 5,000 people. In 1907, the city changed its name to Milwaukee and annexed the towns of Waukesha and West Allis.
