Pewaukee was founded by Pennsylvania Dutch farmers in 1839. The town grew quickly, and in 1851 it became a part of the newly formed Racine County. In 1907, Pewaukee joined the Wisconsin State Senate and then the Wisconsin House of Representatives. In 1912, the town became a city, and in 1954 it was renamed to Pewaukee after Mayor John H.
