Pewaukee, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state ofWisconsin and the county seat of Milwaukee County. The population was 20,819 at the 2010 census. Pewaukee is located in the Milwaukee-Waukesha metropolitan area and is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha-Racine Combined Statistical Area. The first gun shop in Pewaukee opened in 1892 by Elisha Wright and his son Amos Wright. The store continued to operate until it closed in 1919. At that time, there were only two gun stores operating in Wisconsin; both were in Racine, Wisconsin. In 1927, Charles Jensch started a gun store on North Fourth Street in downtown Pewaukee. By 1951, Jensch had six stores open total across different states including one location in Canada importing guns from America and another outfitting hunters with shotguns and rifles (the Canadian Store). In 1969, Clarence LaBonge opened a Gun Shop on East Elm street which would become one of the largest shooting businesses ever established west of Chicago using 6 machines selling all types of ammo as well as handguns accessories such as grips, sights etc., along with 2 firearmssmiths who also did barrel work for customers (the LaBonge Armory). In 1984 Charles Ladd started Open Air Shooting Academy which became an outdoor shooting Mecca for young adults throughout Wisconsin spreading their love for shooting sports through competitions/adventures outdoors where they faced challenges such as rifle ranges/shootoffs against other clubs or individuals from neighboring townships or counties competing against each other for bragging rights or simply enjoying some peaceful moments surrounded by good friends while practicing self-defense skills when necessary; this experience gave many people their first taste of muzzle loading weaponry while helping teach children about responsible firearm handling techniques & safety tips that they would carry with them into adulthood! Open Air Shooting Academy still offers annual competitions open to anyone age 16 years old or younger regardless if they are experienced shooters or not! A year later Pogue's Sporting Goods Stores Inc., owner & operator since 1978 Of Two Gunsgun Emporium opened its doors on South Third Street adjacent to WISN Radio station Channel 11 giving local kids access to fresh air & fun every weeknight during school hours; this program was dubbed "Guns N' Games" because owner Dick Pogue enjoyed playing various games related to hunting & shooting at his store between rounds of target practice! This program continues today (as does Saturday morning open enrollment mornings) with youngsters from all walks of life coming together to learn how to shoot safely & responsibly! The first settler in this area was John Prentice, who arrived in 1836. He named his land Pewaukee after his home village in England (London). The first post office in Pewaukee was established on May 6, 1854, and it served as the center of activity until 1906 when a new city was founded nearby called Waukesha. In 1907, Pewaukee became an incorporated municipality with its own government and police force under Mayor Fenton Nessmith. In 1916, World War I began and by September 1918 the town had grown to over 10% of the entire population of Dane County due to military veterans returning home fromEurope as well as new immigrants arriving through Ellis Island during that time period such as Poles and Slovaks. However by 1920 only 4% of all residents were military veterans while almost 60% were civilians or their descendants The Great Depression ended much earlier than expected for many towns in rural America because there were no large job openings available outside of Chicago or New York City but did happen throughout rural America due to changes during that time such as farming techniques becoming more mechanized which led to lower prices for goods sold at local stores along with inflation which created more money available for people to spend instead of saving
Pewaukee was founded in 1836 by John and Anna Pewaukee. The town grew quickly, becoming the largest village in Wisconsin by 1852. In the 1870s, Pewaukee became a railroad center due to its location at the confluence of the Wabash and Fox rivers. The town's growth ended around World War II when most of the rail yards were closed. However, many of Pewaukee's businesses still operate today.
