The Franco-American coffee trade in Wisconsin began in the early 1800s. The first Europeans to come to Wisconsin were French traders and missionaries who, seeking a route to the Far East, landed at what is now Platteville on Lake Michigan in 1819. They established a trading post and made contact with Native Americans. In 1824, the United States acquired from France all of Canada except for Quebec. George Washington was visiting Montreal when he learned of this news and decided thatWisconsin would be an ideal place for U.S. coffee production. He ordered his Secretary of War, James Kieft, to extended an invitation to representatives from various American cities for a meeting about setting up coffee plantations in Canada. At the meeting, Kieft recommended that Chicago should be given the opportunity to try out coffee planting because its climate was well suited for it; Milwaukee also applied for permission to plant coffee but did not receive any response from Washington. In 1827, General David Hunter sailed downriver from Stonington Bay on Connecticut's Fox River and landed at Green Bay with supplies of beans and machinery needed for making espresso machines at Castle Park Coffee House on Water Street nearpresent day Winona Lake

Platteville is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the southern edge of the Driftless Lakes region. The population was 3,827 at the 2010 census. The community is named after Napoleon's army general Anthony Wayne Platteville. The name "Platteville" originated with French traders and settlers who traveled along what is now State Highway 6 in what is now Platteville Township in 1836. They named their new settlement for General Anthony Wayne (1784-1851), a captain in France's forces who had served under Andrew Jackson during the Mexican-American War and later fought as a colonel under General Winfield Scott at Gettysburg. In 1866, platting out lots for settlers began to be done by surveyors from Green Bay, Waukesha, Milwaukee, and other towns within Wisconsin's expanding borders. One settler, John Bendixsen, donated land to platting out Platteville township on November 15, 1866; it contained . By 1870, platting was complete and thirty-six lots had been sold totaling . On May 5th of that year - just one day beforeWisconsin became an independent country - platters met at Platteville Hall to finalize boundaries for their new township which would include present day Platteville Township., La Crosse County., Brown County., Menomonee County., Racine County., Marinette County.. A post office called "Platteville" was established in 1871 when Illinois mail arrived there from Racine and other eastern towns via stagecoach service originating near Prairie du Chien. The first letters mailed were: "Pteteville," August 29th,-1872; "Ptetville Station," October 26th,-1872; "New Platteville Station," December 20th,-1873; "Old Platteville Station," January 2nd,-1874; all three being received by John Larkin at New Platteville Station. The first train into town from Green Bay crossed the Twin Rivers east ofpresent day Slinger Road on April 6th 1875 when it left White Earth Depot for Manitowoc Junction carrying passengers to prospecting camps south of today’s Town of North Woods platted nearby by Isaac Nunn & His Brothers including early iron ore properties near present day West Allis Avenue/Route 10 bridge over River Ostrokkee.. In 1897 this line was abandoned due to budget cuts associated with World War I.. After WWI ended services resumed until 1951 when they were discontinued again because of budget constraints associated with Interstate 90 construction changes which involved moving westbound lanes across Town lines cutting off access to much needed Main Street funding which forced closures throughout most of rural central Wisconsin .. For many years Pteteville Telephone Company wired most parts of town using large copper telephone poles set up next door to Second Baptist Church while First BaptistChurch used its own small pole system .. Today only one small pole still remains from days past connected directly to City Hall phone line

Platteville, Wisconsin was founded in 1836 by Captain David Thompson and his sons. The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, with a population of only twenty-one in 1838. However, due to its location on the edge of a large prairie, Platteville quickly became a center for agriculture and industry. By 1861, the town had reached a population of 2,500 residents. After several years of growth, the Panic of 1873 caused a decline in business activity in Platteville. however, the town continued to grow steadily until it reached its current size in 1911. During the 1930s, Platteville experienced an increase in automobile sales as demand for goods produced by local farmers increased. Today, Platteville is one of the most important agricultural towns in Wisconsin and is home to many major businesses including IBM and DuPont chemical plants.

The township of Platteville was included within East Allis Township. On December 1st, 1907, the town of Platteland incorporated as a village. On January 1st 1909 it annexed the village of West Allis which had been part of East Allis Township since 1907. On December 4th 1912 Platteland annexes the village of Menomonee Falls which had also been part of East Allis Township since 1907
