The National Guard in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin was first organized on June 7, 1892. The first national guard unit in the town was Company F of the 9th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in World War I and returned home to serve in the 1920s as part of the Wisconsin State Militia. Company F disbanded in 1929, but new units were created throughout the 1930s and 1940s by order of Gov. Robert Hubert Jorgensen. In 1946, all state militias were reorganized into their present form as the National Guard Bureau under Gov. James C. Rhodes Jr.. In September 1998, Company D (6th Battalion) of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division was activated at Camp Randall near Milwaukee to provide security for a large agricultural fair being held there that week. Since then company has been deployed multiple times to support various events across the state including a NATO summit in 2003 and an American Legion convention this year

The first Europeans to explore and colonize the area that is now Pleasant Prairie were French in 1673. The area was part of the La Crosse County until it was transferred to Racine County in 1848. In 1854, the county was divided into two parts, one became Racine County and the other Pleasant Prairie County. The name "Pleasant Prairie" came about because of a dispute over land between two families: the Pruyns and Nichols.
