There are also several small stores dotting the village including one convenience store/grocery chain as well as two gasoline stations (one open 24/7) which provide some needed basics like milk, bread products etc., but no large items!

Despite these challenges, there are still many opportunities for growth potential at present due to continued investment by developers into newresidential developments as well as expansions into other industries such as health care or manufacturing businesses.
Pleasant Prairie was first settled in the 1840s by men from Ohio. The town was named for Pleasant Hill, a nearby mountain. In 1867, a post office was founded at Pleasant Prairie and it continued to be in operation until 1959. The town had two schools until the late 1800s when they were replaced by a junior high school and an elementary school. In 1917, the town became a city and it has since grown again with annexations from other towns. In 1955, the city of Pleasant Prairie approved plans to build a new downtown which included an ice cream parlor and movie theater. The project was completed in 1958 and today is known as the Civic Center District.
