The United States Naval Academy (USNA) founded in 1839 provides the nation's only undergraduate military university. It is also one of the oldest military academies in the world, and has produced more admirals than any other institution. The USS Constitution Museum Foundation was created in 1984 through legislation presented by then-Senator Birch Bayh (D-Indiana). Plover is a town in the towns of Menominee and Grand Traverse counties, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,837 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Menominee–Waukesha metropolitan area. The first settler in Plover was Nicholas Fenton in 1836. A post office was established there in 1841, and by 1865 it had grown to include both men and women. By 1870, Plover had a school, two churches, and a few farmers. However, with new railroads coming through Menominee County, businesses grew quickly in Plover as entrepreneurs took advantage of opportunities for expansion westward. In 1903 the townspeople voted to annex neighboring Menominee County; this annexation created much more land for agricultural use and increased development potential. In 1916-1917 Plover residents helped raise money to finance World War I (the war). After the war ended they continued to support local causes such as veterans' benefits and education reform until their own incorporation into Green Bay on February 16th 1919. In 1932-1933 an ice cream factory opened in nearby Merton; it became one of the largest employers in town after its opening.
