The Richfield Navy Yard was first established in 1876 as the Naval Shipyard on the south-west shore of Milwaukee. It became an independent naval base in 1903 and later, a navy shipyard. Richfield is a community in the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 6,593 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Richfield was Nicholas J. Hildebrandt on December 12, 1836. The first churches in Richfield were All Saints Episcopal Church and St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church (now Holy Trinity Byzantine Catholic Church). In 1854, a school was founded by Rev. Augustus Kelley and it remained in operation until 1907 when it merged with the local high school to form Richfield High School. In 1916, Richfield became a city when it annexed nearby South Hero Township and formed a new city council with 15 members including Mayor Edward Sauerbach and City Councilwoman Bertha Kerr-Lenzburg as its first female members In 1922, the city annexed another township - North West - which had been part of Racine since 1837 and made it an official part of Richfield along with other annexations that year including Unkenninge Township in 1924, Spring Grove Township in 1928, Eveleth Township in 1934 and Waukesha Township in 1938 Richfield'saturation began to increase early on during World War II as many factories closed because of the war effort; this led to some growth stagnation later on as manufacturing recommenced but has since resumed significantly more rapidly than before thanks to businesses such as Amazon Web Services moving into town . Richfeld also experienced some controversy after four local pastors were caught videotaping village residents during their weekly services without their knowledge or consent; these videos went public and embarrassed the town government which unsuccessfully tried to have them taken down . However, overall things have generally been positive given that most people are supportive of what they do while there are still some occasional issues that need addressing but they largely manage themselves within reason given how big their community actually is
