The first coast guard gift was given to Shorewood, Wisconsin in 1896. The Coast Guard Museum in Milwaukee has a small collection of donated items from the early 1900s. This includes a lieutenant's uniform and cap, a life jacket, an ice pick, and a set of pontoons. In 1933, the first Coast Guard station was established in Shorewood and gifts became more common. A year later, the first Coast Guard cutter was donated to the town. Gifts continued to be given until 1966 when the Coast Guard Station closed down. However, donations continue to come in from people all over Wisconsin for the purpose of providing service to those living on or near the shoreline.

The Shorewood Coast Guard Station was founded in 1916. The station served as a training ground for the Wisconsin State Police and the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department. In 1929, the Coast Guard moved to its current location on the shore of Lake Michigan.
Shorewood is a town in the Washington County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 5,468 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Milwaukee–Waukesha Metropolitan Area. Shorewood was platted in 1837 and named for Augustus P. Shore, an American politician who served as U.S. Representative from Minnesota (1836-1841). The first post office in Shorewood was established in 1838 and closed in 1848. The first store open in Shorewood was the Western Block Store which opened on August 3, 1839. The first settler to live in what is now Shorewood was John Eaton who arrived with his family on October 9, 1838 from Green Bay, Wisconsin via a wagons train carrying goods brought over by Andrew Jackson's army during the Black Hawk War campaign of 1828-29. Eaton built a small log cabin near where he lived until his death on July 3, 1865 at the age of 90 years and 7 months. Shorewood became a town on February 14, 1895 when it merged with neighboring Waukesha to form the new city of Milwaukee Township.[2] On November 2nd 1908 residents of Waukesha Township voted to secede from Milwaukee Township and become their own independent village[3]. The following year they passed an ordinance granting voting rights to women voters[4]. In 1915 shorewood annexed parts of Waukesha township which made it a larger municipality once again[5]. In 1924shorewood lost its independence when it merged into Milwaukee Township once again[6]. On October 15th 1957 shorewood had its final day as an unincorporated community when it merged into the newly formed city of Milwaukee.[7] At that time there were 5500 residents living inside shore wood boundaries making it one ofWisconsin's most populous towns by far

Shorewood was founded in 1854 by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail. It is located in the town of Shorewood, Wisconsin, on the border of Racine and Kenosha counties. Shorewood is a small community with a population of around 1,500 people. The post office has been in operation since 1855. In 1907, Shorewood became home to the first high school in Racine County. In 1959, Shorewood High School merged with Racine Technical High School to form the present-day Shorewood-Racine High School. The name of the old high school was changed to Lakeshore HS after its merger with Lakeshore Technical HS. In fall 2013, it was announced that Lakeshore-Hudson would close its doors effective June 30th due to lack of enrollment as well as financial problems within the school district. This left Shorewood without a high school until 2017 when West Side HS opened up in nearby Whitehall Township which then became Shorewood's new high school
