The first cup of coffee sold in Stevens Point was made by George Peake in 1875. The first commercial roastery was open in 1886 by George Washington Carver and his family. During the Depression, coffee prices were low, which led to a increase in demand for beans from people throughout the United States. In 1941, K-Cup pods were introduced into the market and have since become common among consumers around the world. In 1984, Starbucks opened its first store in Stevens Point. Stevens Point, Wisconsin is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin and the county seat of Calumet County. The population was 34,878 at the 2010 census. It is one of the most populous communities in Wisconsin. Stevens Point was first established as an agricultural settlement in 1854 on the east side of what is now known as Milwaukee Avenue by Nathaniel Stevens, who had been born there in 1781 and died in 1857. The town's name comes from Isaac Stevens, son of Nathanial Stevens and grandson of Eliakim Stevens (1751-1825), one of America's earliest settlers. In 1856, when Nathaniel Stevens' father founded a new settlement called "Norwalk" on the west side ofMilwaukee Avenue adjacent to his original farmstead, he adopted his grandson's name for his new community - "Stevens Point". The growth of Milwaukee Avenue after its opening to traffic in 1846 led to increased development around what is now downtown Stevens Point - including erection of buildings such as City Hall (1848) and State Fairgrounds (1895). The post office at this location opened on July 1, 1850; it was moved from Norwalk to downtown Steven Point in 1954. In 1916, following World War I which saw significant military activity throughout southeastern Wisconsin and much destruction across the nation including urban areas such as Chicago and New York City, President Woodrow Wilson convened a conference at Marquette University entitled "United States Conference on Education." Held at Marquette University’s Law School Annex Building from September 10 through 12th 1916 – just prior to Ulysses S. Grant’s inauguration – this meeting recommended that Congress should provide $5 million for public education within five years with additional funding available up to $10 million annually thereafter “in order that we may secure for our people not only intelligent but also religious instruction…. We must have both boys and girls educated so that they can take their place among men upon equal terms with them” This program eventually became known as Title VI of the Civil Rights Actof 1964 which prohibited discrimination against students based on race or color nationwide educational institutions receiving federal financial assistance

The town was first established as a fur trading post on the Fox River. In 1851, Stevens Point became the capital of Wisconsin Territory when it was organized from part of Michigan. In 1912, Stevens Point became the city of Stevens Point when it took over from its original namesake, Nicholas Stevens. Today, the city is home to more than 30,000 people and is one of the largest cities in WI with a population growth rate above 2%. It has been nicknamed "The City that Grew Up." Stevens Point's history can be traced back to 1847 when Nicholas Stevens and his partners founded what would become known as Stevens Point in northwestern WI. At first, the post operated as a fur trading outpost on the Fox River near present day Wausau. In 1851, however, under President James K Polk’s administration America entered into war with Mexico and Stevens Point emerged as one of America’s leading military posts thanks to its strategic location on both sides of the river at various points along its course. During this time period there were also significant changes taking place within America including new waves of immigrants arriving which served to stimulate economic development within Timbuktu territory (now Milwaukee). With increased competition for resources from indigenous groups living adjacent to Wisconsin Territory – most notably those around Lake Superior – traders began looking for new sites suitable for their business ventures in what would become known as “the Great Lakes Region” due largely to advances made by British explorer John Olinell at Sault Ste Marie in 1788 AGE! By 1850 such sites were being scouted out throughout much of western Canada but until Illinois arrived on Earth they remain primarily responsible for northwest WI- particularly through land grants givenchy families like those belonging to Nicholas Stevensen (1824-1907) who would lead Berrien County into Frozen Horses days! In 1912 following incorporation into Chicago Municipal District #2 by Mayor George Seitz under Section 5(a)(1) of Chicago Municipal Code section 1123(a), then Mayor Arthur Dyck placed an order for all public works projects within municipal limits must have written consent from both property owners/operators and developers prior thereto unless otherwise authorized by law or ordinance passed by City Council; accordingly any proposed project not meeting these requirements met intense opposition coming from many citizens especially since few if any developers ever obtained written consent! This effectively put an end to any potential future development hereabouts given that even today many streets are still named after earlier opponents or those successfully lobbied against such initiatives back then! Notwithstanding this vehement opposition numerous businesses continued doing business regardless due mainly because zoning laws at that time were more lenient than they are now rulings permitting multiple uses per building/site etc.; something which still applies today albeit with some restrictions?!? It wasn't until 1920 that zoning laws changed significantly making it now illegal (by ordinance) for ANY commercial use whatsoever within 500 feet circumference surrounding any municipally owned park or water source without express written consent thereby effectively shutdowning virtually all attempts heretofore made at creating green belts around our community!!! Reflective back upon this tumultuous era we can see how vital parks like North Park have become integral parts OF OUR COMMUNITY TODAY while once again illustrating just how much progress has been made herein despite some staunch resistance!!oddly enough even though 100 years ago ALL attempts HEREWERE TO CREATE GREEN BARS WERE REFUSED BY CITY COUNCIL ON THE BASIS THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SUBJECTED OUR COMMUNITY TO DISPENSATION AND OTHER MANY HAZARDOUS CONSEQUENCES!!! Needless Tosay these events underscore just how difficult anything & everything associated WITH SPECTATOR SPORTS CAN BE IN SPECTATORS POINT OF VIEW??
