In 2007, Sun Prairie became one of eighteen towns to be merged into the new Green Bay–West Allis metropolitan area. Sun Prairie is known for its wide variety of agricultural products including corn, soybeans, wheat, eggs and other poultry production; lumber; dairy products; manufactured goods such as computers and cell phones; and recreational activities such as fishing and hunting. The community also enjoys an annual summer fire festival which features music and games for children as well as vendors selling food and drinks from their tents along Second Street outside of the high school gymnasiums.

Sun Prairie is a small town in the Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,543 at the 2010 census. Sun Prairie is considered a rural community and has no municipal services. It is located on the border of Ozaukee and Milwaukee counties. The first settlers to Sun Prairie were John Fetterman and his wife Martha (née Hall). They arrived in 1837 from Shadee, New York. John Fetterman started farming in what is now Sun Prairie and became an important figure in early Wisconsin politics. He served as Justice of the Peace for Ozaukee County from 1851 to 1865 and was also an unsuccessful candidate for U.S. Congress in 1857 and 1861. Foster Wheeler came to Sun Prairie in 1851 with his family from New Britain, Connecticut. Foster Wheeler was a self-made man who had built up one of the largest businesses in Milwaukee County by 1850. He founded the first post office at Sun Prairie, which opened on November 1, 1853. The post office was renamed Waukesha on December 12, 1860 after Waukesha County, Wisconsin was created out of part of Milwaukee County on February 14, 1860 (). Foster Wheeler's son-in-law Isaac Nourse moved to Sun Prairie from near Racine in1860 and began making bricks for a new local brick factory that would soon be developed around town by his son-in-law Amos Nourse Jr.. In 1863 Amos Nourse Sr.'s daughter married George Cheney who also owned a brick factory nearby; they named their business Cheney Brick Factory Incorporated after their father-in-law's company.) In 1870 George Cheney bought land east of town along present day Highway 12 for $1 per acre (the same price as adjoining farmlands). He built what is now the Cheney Agricultural Center which included four miles (6 km) of track leading to two large sheds where he processed agricultural goods such as flour and feed products into finished products such as barrels or cans that could be sold nationwide.(Cheney Brick Factory: History & Heritage Museum) In 1893 Willis Hodge homesteaded land west of town northwest of current day High School off US 12/Hwy 20 crossing . Hodge established himself as one of earlyWisconsin country farmers through raising chickens (now known as hogs), pigs, beef cattle etc., until 1911 when he entombed them all inside an earthfill embankment complex near today’s high school off HWY 20/Sun Prairie Rd.( WILLIAM HODGE MUSEUM) As this paper continues it will mention various people associated with Sun Prairie during its history
Sun Prairie was founded in 1854 by John Lyon as a small town on the east side of the Wisconsin River. It rapidly grew, and by 1860 it had a population of over 200 people. In 1872, Sun Prairie became the first town in Wisconsin to be incorporated as a village. The town continued to grow, and in 1893 it had 1,500 residents. By 1916 Sun Prairie had 5,000 residents and was one of the largest towns in Wisconsin. In 1925 Sun Prairie merged with neighboring Racine to form Racine-Sun Prairie-Muncie.
