The first cup of Joe was brewed at The Henniker Coffee House by John Fenton in 1873. In 1907, JT’s Coffee opened its doors on property owned by Captain Julius Kappenberg on North Main Street. Captain Kappenberg was a German immigrant who brought his trade of shipping coffee to Waunakee from Holland in the early 1800s. He had two stores in town - one on South First Street and one on West Main Street. In 1916, Captain Kappenburg sold his business to Mr. & Mrs. Addison Neely for $1,000 cash! The popularity of espresso (and other powerful black java drinks) led to the development of iced coffee during Prohibition era America which continued until 1964 when ice cream became popular again after prohibition ended

In the 1840s, Waunakee was a small village in Door County, Wisconsin. The first coffee beans were roasted here in 1848 by Jacob Brown and his family. In 1865, George L. Kapp established the first grocery store in Waunakee and began to sell coffee. In 1898, the town had its first post office and became a Village of Waunakee.
Waunakee is a town in the town of Dodge City, Douglas County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 528 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Mississippi River. The first settlers in this part of what is nowMinnesota were French Catholic missionaries who came to this area in 1854. They named their new community after Saint Wouterus of Antwerp who had come to America as a missionary and died in 1855 near present-day Minneapolis. In 1881, Waunakee was platted and became an incorporated village. In 1909, it merged with the neighboring communities of Mayville and Menomonie to form the newly named Dodge City metropolitan area which included all of Douglas County except for Waunakee and Mayville. Waunakee has been represented by one member in the Minnesota House of Representatives since January 3, 2009; current Representative Rich Segal (Dodge City) served until his resignation effective January 3, 2013 due to term limits set by the state legislature
