Waupun is a town in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 21,792 at the 2010 census. Waupun is the second-largest town in Milwaukee County after Milwaukee. It is part of the Metropolitan Milwaukee area and lies on both sides of the Fox River. The first post office in Waupun was established on October 10, 1836, and remained open until November 3, 1839. The first settlers to what would become Waupun were Levi Morse and his family who arrived from Connecticut on September 17, 1836. They started a wagon trade with farmers along the Fox River and built their first log cabin at present day's intersection of Elm Street and North Avenue (now Winona Boulevard) in 1840. On July 16, 1851, Waupun was platted as a townsite by commissioners J.P. Hettinger and Edwin Ayer under an act of Congress passed on April 11th for the purpose of providing a permanent place for public worship services within easy reach of most citizens In 1865 when Wausaunee County was created from portions of Milwaukee County it included all or parts of eleven towns within its borders: Appleton; Baden; Beech Brook; Berlin; Bexley Heights; Birch Grove; Black Diamond ; Bristol ; Cedarburg ; Clarksville ; Crystal Lake ; De Pere ; Eagle Point ; Dutch Prairie ; Green Bay In 1870 when West Allis became part of Milwaukee County it included much territory east of its present line including what is now Waupun Township including parts now located in Oshkosh or Sheboygan counties On May 6th 1886 voters approved incorporation as a city by vote of over 60% with boundaries that remain largely unchanged to this day

Waupun is a town in Douglas County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1854 and named for Waupon Creek. It is the only municipality in Douglas County that has been continuously settled since it was organized as a county in 1852. Waupun is located on the eastern border of Wisconsin and Illinois. The first settler in what eventually became Waupun was James Sisson, who arrived there on October 26, 1854. He built a cabin on the present site of the current town hall and market building. In 1855, Isaac Sears came to Waupun from Greenfield Township and laid out a township block around what is now Main Street. This set off a series of other settlement by proprietors and others until most of what is now Douglas County had been developed by 1857 when it became part of the newly formedWisconsin Territory under President James K. Polk. In December 1850, Jacob Wiseman came to Waupun from Mandan County with his family and began farming near present-day Kimberly Lake. John Hargrave followed suit two years later with his family and started homesteading along what are now Remington Avenue and State Highway 54 north of present-day downtown Waupon. By January 1863, all but three families living within ten miles (16 kilometers) of downtown were said to be farmers or settlers living on small holdings with no more than twenty acres (10 hectares) of land devoted to crops; this included all but one family within five miles (8 kilometers) of downtown Waupon itself . By 1865 there appeared to be over 1,000 residents scattered throughout nearly every inch (2 kilometer)of territory east of Watertown according to US Census records (). On May 8th 1865 wheat prices topped $1 per bushel for the first time ever (), further encouraging colonists to settle into areas closer to commerce (). On July 6th 1865 a group led by Captain George Biddle traveled from Milwaukee via Dodge City () past Chicago () en route to survey an area southward along present day I-35W between Manitowoc() and Green Bay() towards their proposed new village site at Estero (). They reached downriver about halfway across before turning back due lack of water supplies they were told awaited them at Estero (). Upon arrival they found that no such village existed even though they had seen evidence that one had already been established thereabouts by some unnamed people (); instead they discovered an abandoned Indian encampment which served as their initial meetings place for planning their new venture(). Captain Biddle soon realized that he needed someone with local knowledge so he appointed David Dudley as guide/instructor for his trip.: Dudley would go onto become one Of The Most Notable Prominent Pioneers In Sioux Town History
In 1847, the Waupun people were forced to leave their home in what is now Wisconsin by the United States government. The government claimed that the Waupun people were in violation of a treaty that had been signed between America and Great Britain. The Waupun people refused to leave and fought back, eventually killing many American troops before being driven away.
