In 1951, local resident Alois Engelbach donated a rifle to the Wausau Army Ammunition Plant. The rifle is currently on display at Soldier Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This was not the only donation made by Engelbach during his lifetime; he also contributed money to build a playground in memory of his son Max and gave scholarships to local students. In 1957, Alois Engelbach’s wife Eva passed away after setting up an auto garage near her home in order to provide financial assistance for military families stationed overseas. Her husband left her with an extensive collection of military memorabilia which she later donated to the Wausau Army Ammunition Plant Museum. A year later,Local businessman George Fries donated a cannonball launcher called “Fries Gun”to the army forces stationed in town. The cannonball launcher was used for target practice by members of the army units stationed in town. It is now on display at Soldiers Field Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin . In 1968,Alois Engelbach’s grandson Donny Eastman gifted two motorcycles valued at $1,500 each toArmy personnel stationed nearby as part of their Christmas present . Wausau is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the northern border of the state's Upper Peninsula. The population was 24,854 at the 2010 census. The name "Wausau" is most likely derived from the Ojibwe word "wac-see", meaning "landing place." In 1835, Wausau was chartered as a town and named for John Wausaert, an early settler in this area. The first post office in Wausau opened on November 1, 1836. After a few years, local officials realized that there was no post office near enough to serve all of the town's residents; so they established a new post office at what is now downtown Wausau on February 17th 1840. At this time, only men could send mail to their families back home in southern Manitowoc County; so women started sending letters to their husbands just after this date. In 1853, railroad construction began through central Wisconsin and soon Wausau became one of several towns along the line close to its tracks. On October 4th 1857, during Muddy Waters' historic three-day stay in Wausau (now known asjohnny vineland), Music Hall Theatre audiences saw his first live performance since leaving Baltimore following his release from prison two years earlier
