Whitefish Bay is a small town in the Wisconsin state of Wisconsin. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is located in Outagamie County. The area that would become Whitefish Bay was first settled by the Menominee people. They built their villages on two small points on the bayou which became known as Point Pelee and Point Clear. By 1836, most of these villages had been abandoned because of an epidemic that killed many people and left their homes uninhabitable. In 1837, a group of European fur traders travelling through this area discovered what they thought were beaver ponds near Point Clear. After visiting these ponds several times they decided to build a fort at Point Pelee to protect their shipments from Indian raiders. This fort became known as Fort Dearborn after the Dearborn brothers who ran it. The town of Whitefish Bay was founded in 1855 when white settlers moved into what had been formerlyIndian territory and started farming land around present-day Whitefish Bay and Point Clear. The town was named for John Whitefish, one of the original white settlers in this area

Whitefish Bay was founded in 1854 by a group of Norwegian immigrants. The town was originally named Eide after the old Norwegian village of Eidanger. In 1875, Whitefish Bay became a city and was renamed Whitefish after the white fish that is common in the area. The town experienced significant growth during the late 19th century, thanks to its position as an important shipping point on the Great Lakes. The population increased from around 100 people in 1870 to more than 1,000 by 1900. This growth led to social problems and economic stagnation, however. During World War II, Whitefish Bay played an important role in the production of munitions for the United States military. The town also became known for its cheese industry, which produced some of Wisconsin's most popular brands such as Gouda and Brie. However, these industries have since disappeared and the town is now largely deserted.
