The Coast Guard has been in Whitewater, Wisconsin since 1854. The first coast guard station was established on the north side of the Kettle River in 1854. The present day Whitewater Station was built in 1927 and is the only remaining structure from that original station. The Coast Guard has played an important role in maintaining security along the Wisconsin-Michigan border for over a century. Today, the Coast Guard operates three stations located in Whitewater: First Station, Second Station, and Third Station. These stations provide law enforcement, fire protection, and rescue services to residents and businesses along the state’s northwestern shoreline. Whitewater is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Mississippi River. The population was 8,626 at the 2010 census. The name "Whitewater" is derived from the Potawatomi word wichit-a-wetse (waterworn ground). The first permanent white settlement in what is now Whitewater was established in 1836 by Captain James Fenton and his two assistants, William Hull and Peter Hennepin. They named their new community after Whitewater Creek, which they found flowing through their lands. In 1839, John Green and others bought land near Whitewater from Fenton for $1 million. In 1854, John Dutton built a dam across the main Whitewater River to create Lake Michigan Throughwater Navigation Company Rapids Dam (). This dam created an impassable waterway that served as a commercial fishery for many years before it was destroyed by flooding in 1927. In 1912, Congress authorized creation of the United States Army Corps of Engineers to develop flood control measures alongthe entire Mississippi River system under provisions of Public Law 102–541 (). The corps began operations with three battalions called Lake County Engineer District No. 2 (), which constructed several dams and other structures during World War I (), but these projects were not completed until after World War II (). A second battalion called Waupaca County Engineer District No. 1 () was organized on November 16, 1918 (), and began construction on several facilities such as a crossing over Big Sioux Creek () also known as Black Rock Bridge (). These projects were completed between 1921 and 1923 (). A third battalion known as Menomonee Falls Engineer District No., headquartered in Milwaukee ()) was activated on May 10, 1924 (), followed by its own district headquarters on October 5 of that year (). On December 15th(), Headquarters became operational at Fort Snelling . That same year (1924), Congress passed legislation authorizing creation of four more engineer districts; these were: Tomahawk Valley Engineer Districts Nos 1-4 (Stout/Norman/Lacrosse), Appleton/Waukesha County Engineer District No 3 ({now Racine}, WI), Oshkosh Heights/Milwaukee County Engineer District No 4 ({now Sheboygan}, WI)), Allis Lakes National Forest Engineering District #5 ({now La Crosse}, WI)) Each engineer district consisted of five counties or portions thereof: Allegany (Allegheny), Boone (Boone), Brown (Brown), Chippewa (Chippewa), Dodge (Dodge) , Lawrence (Kanagawa/Lawrence) , Milwaukee commonwealth () . A final district headquarters was set up at Fort Snelling in 1926 when all six districts merged into one organization under jurisdiction of Army Chiefof Staff General George C Marshall ). By this time most of the original dams had been dismantled or replaced . Today only two remaining dams remain; One is currently owned by Battelle Memorial Institute (); the other is held by US Government Water Conservation Center

Whitewater is a town in the U.S. state of Wisconsin, located on the Fox River about 20 miles (32 km) west of Milwaukee. The population was 5,041 at the 2010 census. The name means "white water" in Potawatomi and "watercourse" in English. The first Europeans to visit what is now Whitewater were French missionaries in the early 17th century. A fur trader, Samuel de Champlain, explored and mapped the area in 1695-96 while on his way from Canada to New York City. He named many of what are now Whitewater County and Whitewater Township after members of his expedition—Jacques Marquette, Pierre L’Ouverture, Jean Nicolet—and hometowns in Canada: Richelieu (Canada), Montreal (northwest Quebec), Québec City (southwestern Ontario), Niagara Falls (northern New York), and Rochester (New York). Captain John Marshall found a salt water stream near present-day Racine that he called Whitefish Creek when he surveyed land for the Illinois Company in 1785; this stream later became known as Racine Creek because it emptied into Lake Michigan near Racine. While surveys were being conducted for a new western boundary between Wisconsin and Minnesota by Lieutenant Colonel David Thompson during 1824-25, some men traveled along Whitefish Creek east from Green Bay to its mouth on the Fox River before returning upstreamMarch 8–9 1826 while searching for a suitable landing spot for their wagon trains traveling downriver from Chicago to Milwaukee via Rock Island or Prairie du Chien Rapids facilities they had seen earlier on their journey northward from Fort Snelling on “the Great Lakes” so named because these channels had been crossed by natives living near them] On March 8th George Armstrong Custer led an Indian force against General Anthony Wayne's American force under Major General Andrew Jackson at Battle Of Fallen Timbers which resulted In The loss of 350 Americans killed with survivors retreating overland back up the Mississippi River where they arrived safe but exhausted weeks later
Whitewater was first settled by the Potawatomi in 1836. The town was named after the Whitewater River, which flows through it. The river provided a natural source of water for the town and also served as its main access point. In 1872, Whitewater became an incorporated town with a population of around 350 people. The town developed into a agricultural center during the late 19th century and early 20th century. During World War II, Whitewater helped provide food for Allied troops stationed in nearby Wisconsin and Minnesota. It also played an important role in the development of postwar American agriculture. In 1955, Whitewater merged with neighboring Springfield to form the current city of Milwaukee.
