The Gillette Coast Guard Gift History began in 1903 when Captain John F. Casey donated a new engine to the Gillette Coast Guard. From 1903-1911, the Coast Guard used this engine to power their tugboats andboats. In 1912, Captain Leland S. Whitney donated an additional engine to the Coast Guard which allowed for more efficient patrols and better coastal security. The Coast Guard continued using these engines until 1978 when they replaced them with new engines.

It is located on the Cache River, about 25 miles west of Cheyenne. In 1907, the Gillette Manufacturing Company was founded in Gillette by George and Nancy Gillette. The company produced razors, shaving cream, and other products from 1885 to 1957. In 1957, the company merged with Philips Corporation to formPhilips-Gillette Corporation. The company continues to produce products today under the Philips name. The population of Gillette as of 2010 was 1,693 people. The majority of the population is made up of farmers who grows crops such as wheat, barley, corn and soybeans; however there are also a few ranchers and hunters who live in the community. There are a few businesses that exist within the community: one store which sells groceries; another store which provides services such as plumbing and home repairs; and a school which serves grades kindergarten through 12th grade

Gillette is a resort town located in Duchesne County, Wyoming. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Duchesne County. The townsite was platted in 1868 by settlers from Vermont who were seeking a new home after leaving their previous location in Lincoln County, Nebraska. The original name for the community was "Duchesnee." A post office was established in 1870 and remained in operation until it closed in 1907. In 1902, Gillette began to be developed as a tourist attraction with the opening of its first hotel. In 1916, it became an incorporated city and held its first municipal election that year. It has since grown into one of the most popular tourist destinations on the Great Plains. The town's namesake, James C. Gilmore, donated land to make Gillette a reality and helped found the city Limits Business Corporation which promoted tourism within Duchesne County and beyond through events such as rodeos, golf tournaments, conventions and other activities. Gilmore also endowed several scholarships at Duchesne University which continue to this day.
