Gourmet Coffee History in Green River, Wyoming began with the first coffee shop in Green River, Wyoming, which opened its doors on December 3rd, 1916. The shop was founded by Harry Pease and his wife Daisy. At first, the couple only sold coffee beans and creamer. However, over time they began to sell various items related to coffee including milk chocolate boxes, cold brew machines and even roasted espresso beans. In 1951, the company changed its name to Pease Coffee and moved from their original location on Main Street into a new building located at 9th and Elm Streets in downtown Green River. The business remained operational until it closed its doors for good on July 1st of that year. When Gourmet Coffee reopened in 1984 it was under the ownership of John & Wendy Kuchar who operated it until their death in 2003. Their son John Kuchar continued operations until he sold the business to Dave Thomas in 2006. Thomas then ran it as an independent business until he sold it to Joe Sacco in 2009. Sacco then re-opened Gourmet Coffee as an chain with locations throughout Great Britain before selling it back to Dave Thomas in 2013. Since then, Gourmet Coffee has been operating as a franchise under the banner of Joe's Own Coffee Company LLC which is based out of Layville, NJ.

Green River is a town in Laramie County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Great Plains Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Green River" was given to it by General George Armstrong Custer during the Battle of Little Big Horn. The first permanent settler in what is now Green River was John Smeaton in 1877. He founded the town on land that he had purchased from Chief Joseph and other Sioux warriors who had been killed in the battle two years earlier. Smeaton named his community after General Custer's favorite horse,Riverrun. Other early settlers included J.D. Bacon and Wm Henson, who arrived around 1881. In 1907, Green River became a city when it amalgamated with nearby Sheridan to form Sheridan-Green River City Partnership Municipal Union No 2 (today's Sheridan). By 1920, however, Green River City's population dwindled to fewer than 100 people due to factors such as economic recession and World War I displacing many of the town's residents westward into nearby Lamont and Evanston counties seats. The city pleaded for statehood until it finally received it in 1969; but its municipal government continued to be under federal control until 1997 when Laramie County made full incorporation of the city possible without any further city votes or referendums Today much of what once made up Green River has been lost to development: In 2003 only 3% of its total area still remained unoccupied farmland while over 60% has become apartment buildings and office parks; most notably along US 61 which bisects the town center on one side and provides access road onto Interstate 72 on the other The riverfront remains an important commercial center with green beans grown here annually for export; small businesses include several health clinics as well as a few restaurants specializing in local cuisine
