Sheridan, Wyoming is a town of about 10,000 people located in the Clearwater County seat of Sheridan. The first coffee plantation was established there in 1875 by J.H. Granger and others. The first roast of coffee here was made in 1876 by Thomas Bickerton and others on land belonging to George Hildebrandt. In 1907, the site where the Sheridan Coffee Company now stands was bought by Pemberton Coffee Company and it remains one of its largest customers today. The town began to grow rapidly after railroads arrived in Sheridan in the late 1800s. By 1905, Sheridan had a population of over 15,000 people and it became an important center for commerce and culture. The city’s growth led to increased demand for water supplies and essential services such as sewers and schools were built or renovated during this time period. In 1945, Sheridan was officially named “Coffee City” due to its importance as a center for coffee production and consumption throughout Larimer County. Today, the city still boasts a strong coffee industry presence with more than 300 businesses that sell roasted beans from at least two roasters within 1 mile of each other!
